NOTD: Starry Skies Gradient

Oooh, sparkly!

Is everyone enjoying the snow? I guess that depends on where you reside, but in my little spot of the globe it is snow, snow, snow. I was all prepared to have a day of shopping and general Christmas prep only to be snowed in and stuck at home.

This is a variation of a theme from this post that was inspired by a wonderful (and easy!) tutorial posted by Will Work for Makeup here. I have always loved gradients, but I never thought that I had the polishes needed to create one. I was wrong.

Supplies used (in order of use)

Now, you don't get the steps in photos as I wasn't even thinking about sharing this when I painted, but I used the same steps as outlined by Tiffany's tutorial.
How I created my look:
  1. I started with a coat of Avon Adhesive Base Coat. I am not really a fan of this, but I am going to finish it anyway. Have any suggestions on a good base coat?
  2. I applied my Sephora franken gray to the tips. No skill required, it can be messy.
  3. I did a few coats moving 1/4 down each time using the Revlon Star Top Coat.
  4. I realized that the sparkles and holo bits in Star were too sporadic to create an proper looking gradient, so I added a few coats of Cover Girl Boundless Colour Sparkle Top Coat in City Lights concentrating on the lover half of the nail.
  5. I finished the look off with a coat of Essie to Dry For just in case I didn't already have enough layers of top coat.
Have you ever created a gradient? Got any tips or specific polishes you used?
