Review: Sally Hansen Mega Shine Extended Wear Top Coat

I picked up this top coat a while ago, and have been using it pretty regularly since then. My main reason for getting this particular version (Sally Hansen has a ton of top coats) because it is supposed to be quite similar to Seche Vite.

This claims to not only extend the wear of your polish, but to also dry it in just 60 seconds. Does it work? Yes and no. I found that yes it dried to the touch in 60 seconds, but not completely all the way dry. That being said it didn't take forever, but probably a minute total, which is still pretty fast. It did make my polish last longer, but I did not get "up to 10 brilliant days." I never expected that I would though. Overall it did protect really well, and I did get better lasting manicures than my other top coats. The downside with this is that I found it did react negatively with some nail polishes and caused pulling in the tip and in one instance total puckering and a complete mess (I'll have a post about that failed NOTD soon.) If you wrap your tips with the top coat, you can avoid the tip pulling, but it can be a bit messy to do so.

Since I started using this, I did get Seche Vite and it really does compare quite well. Actually, they are pretty much the same. Unfortunately, like Seche Vite, Sally Hansen's top coat does get very thick and goopy as you use it. I think that anyone who uses top coats such as this one (or Seche Vite) it would be totally worth it to pick up a bottle of Seche Vite Restoration Thinner, as it will bring your goopy top coat back to its normal texture.

Overall, this top coat is totally worth giving a try as it does give a really smooth, shiny, protective coat.

Have you tried this top coat? Which top coat do you use?

  3. I haven't seen this one!! I used Seche Vite, but I hate the shrinkage it causes so I use Poshe topcoat instead. It doesn't get really goopy either!!
