Review: Nars Eye Shadow Singles in California and Night Sun

Not so long ago, well... maybe a bit longer than I initially thought, anyway. Not that long ago Sephora started offering up select Nars products at discount prices. The catch was there was only two colour choices per item. I took a chance on the Nars Eye Shadow Singles in California and Night Sun, even though they didn't seem like obvious colour choices for me. That said the $8 USD/ $10 CAD price tag was too good to pass up (they normally go for $23USD/ $26CAD)

California is a described as a "rich copper" and it really is. I was worried that it would lean too red to be a very usable shade, but it has enough of a brown hue to be a really gorgeous choice for fall looks. It is buttery, super pigmented and easy to blend/work with. I found it didn't last that well without a primer, but honestly, who doesn't use a primer?

Night Sun is described as a "bright marigold with gold flecks". Now, yellow is not one my favourite colours, but this shadow does look pretty cute in the pan, but swatched... Different story. This is a pretty sheer shadow, and the glitter chunks gold flecks are kind of difficult to work with. It does apply better over primer, but even then it is not as buttery smooth as California. It could be okay with some smoky liner and lots of mascara, but you won't get a strong yellow punch of colour.

Did you pick up either of these shadows? How do you wear them?
