Review: OPI Nicki Minaj Collection

This was a collection I initially had little interest in. I am not a fan of Nicki Minaj and upon first glance the collection didn't look that great. Obviously I was swayed and I ended up picking up the three cream shades: Pink Friday, Did it On 'Em and Fly along with Metallic 4 Life. The collection also has a holographic bar/mulit glitter and a crackle top coat, but I skipped those.

OPI Pink Friday, Did It On 'Em, Fly, Metallic 4 Life

Pink Friday is a creamy bubblegum pink. I'm really picky when it comes to pink nail polishes. I find that a lot of them look strange on me, but Pink Friday kind of looked like one of my favourite pink polishes (China Glaze Something Sweet). As you can see in the comparison above, it isn't a dupe, but it is a darker take of a very similarly toned pink. Formula was perfect, I used two coats.

OPI Did It On 'Em

Did It On 'Em is a limey chartreuse cream. While I absolutely hate the name, I do love the colour. Chartreuse is one of my favourite colours, so it was a no brainer with this one. It isn't a true chartreuse however, it is more yellow toned and has a hint of a lime green to it. I found the formula a bit thin on this one, and ended up using three coats.

 OPI Fly

Fly is a teal cream, that my camera hated. I had the hardest time getting the right colour to photograph, and it still isn't right. I got close, but you really need to see it in person to get the depth and vibrancy of this shade. It isn't the most unique shade, but it is gorgeous. In the bottle it looked a bit like China Glaze Flyin' High, but as you can see Flyin' High is more of a blue, not really that close of a colour at all.Formula was perfect, this is two coats. Nail line is not visible in person.

OPI Metallic 4 Life

Metallic 4 Life is a silver glitter with silver glitter hex pieces in a black base. You'd think after all the glitters I've been swatching, I would have been able to get better photos of this... Anyhow, this is not really the most unique combination, but I do like it and don't have any dupes. The formula was a bit tricky to work with as it was on the thick side. This is two coats.

What do you think of the collection? Will you be picking up any shades?

  1. Man, this collection totally slipped under my radar! I remember it being first announced, but I had no idea it was out. I really like the look of the chartreuse and glittery black (I hate the names too :P)

  8. Glad I'm not alone on the name front!

I don't know if these are available everywhere yet (well, they might be by now) but my main "dealer" got them in early so I decided to give them a go.

  12. Aww, thanks! You know I'm not totally sure how I do it... sometimes I cheat and have to clean up with acetone and a brush, but these swatches worked out pretty well.

I guess my best tip is to relax, and not over think it. When I "try" I'm more prone to be shaky. Hope that helps!
