Smashbox Haul

Have you ever tried to shop when you really didn't want anything? As much as I do love a good shop, it's ridiculous when you don't know what you want. I know, you're thinking "Why bother then?" I wanted my Birthday freebie from Smashbox. That's why. Was it worth it? Err... maybe?

Smashbox Limitless 15 Hour Wear Cream Eyeshadow in Quartz

Smashbox Photo Hydrating Finish Foundation Primer

After a lot of browsing, I found the Smashbox Limitless 15 Hour Wear Cream Eyeshadow. I love a good Paint Pot, so I naturally, was curious to see how these compare. I chose the shade 'Quartz' a pinky champagne shade. I was about to check out when the little suggestion menu showed the Smashbox Photo Finish To Go sizes in the new formulations. I popped the Hydrating variety into my cart and was off. Now, Smashbox prices are a little high to being with, so $17 for a smaller version of something didn't seem that outlandish to me, BUT look at how small that thing is! Almost $20 for something the size of a deluxe sample. Boo on you Smashbox, BOOOOO.

Samples: Smashbox Studio Skin 15 Hour Hydrating Foundation and Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream

While the primer is a let down, I am pleased with the deluxe sample of their Camera Ready BB Cream (light.) I was tempted to buy this with my order, but I already have so many products on the go, figured I'd wait it out.

Smashbox Jet Set Waterproof Eyeliner in Vamp and Lip Tech in Sangria

Now, onto what I was most interested in: the Birthday freebies. Now, I'm not sure if these are both Birthday items, or if one is from their "Let's Do Lunch" promotion (you get a free gift if you shop between certain hours on Tuesdays.) Since I did place my order on Tuesday, it could be that, but since it isn't certain, I'm calling them both Birthday gifts.

Smashbox Jet Set Waterproof Eyeliner in Vamp

Smashbox Jet Set Waterproof Eyeliner in Vamp ($22) is a deep purple tinged brown that has a light dusting of red shimmer. You can't really detect the shimmer once the liner is on, but it is visible in the pot. I found the formula to be really dry and hard to work with. I found it was hard to get an opaque line, and it wasn't possible to get a thin tapered line. While it did set nicely, my last encounter with Smashbox cream eyeliner was disastrous, they didn't set and majorly irritated my eyes, it just wasn't all that great. It also seems that this colour is no longer available from their website.

Smashbox Lip Tech in Sangria ($24) is a berry toned red. The Lip Tech is no longer listed on the Smashbox website ( I have to wonder, are they only giving these out because they're too old to sell?) so I don't know too much about them, but from the box, they claim to be "Satin-matte lip colour formulated with Vitamin E..." I usually don't like matte formulas, but this one is pretty fantastic. I would have loved a pink or nude shade, but seem to be out of luck. I love the little silicone applicator that is hidden under the product, it seemed odd at first, but it was excellent.

Overall, this turned out to be a less then stellar haul. I'll be testing the Limitless 15 Hour Wear Cream Eyeshadow, so hopefully not all is lost. Have you had any depressing hauls lately?
