Great Colleges Offering Cosmetology Classes


If you love all things beauty, you know that this little obsession can just about take over your life (and your bank account). A passion for color and aesthetics isn’t something all people share, however, and you might want to consider leveraging your beauty instincts into a more fulfilling career. Here are a few top schools, including the training and degree programs available in cosmetology areas:

  • Virginia College – This private college offers career-oriented associate through master’s degree programs. Their diplomas and certificates in cosmetology can get you started on the basics of cutting and styling hair and applying makeup. If you’re more business-oriented, they also have an associate degree in salon management.
  • International School of Health, Beauty and Technology – Located in Lauderhill, Florida, International School of Health, Beauty and Technology (ISHBT) offers flexible courses for students who need to fit school in with other life obligations. Students can pursue programs in cosmetology or esthetics; the school has a fully-equipped salon so that students can practice their skills in a real-world environment. The programs are designed to get students onto the job market in about six months.
  • Star Career Academy – This career college had campuses in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Students can complete the cosmetology certificate program in less than one year.   • PCU College of Holistic Medicine – If you’re interested in incorporating elements of traditional Chinese medicine into your cosmetology work, this school could be a good option. PCU’s campus is located in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada. Students can pursue diplomas in esthetics or spa practice. Other programs cover massage therapy, acupuncture, Chinese herbalist, and Chinese medicine. Graduates have access to the school’s career counseling services, to help them find a job.
