Swatched: Avon Colour Rich Lipsticks- Wink, Poppy Love, Pretty and Mauved Odyssey

I've said it before, and I'll say it again (yes, again) Avon can make a super fantastic lipstick. Like, as good as your fave MAC formula. It's true. The trouble is getting the right one. Their Ultra Colour Rich lineup has the best formula, but some shades have shimmer/frost, which isn't always so great. They have finally brought back classifications when you order from the book. Way back in the day it was a little triangle that signaled shimmer or glitter. Now they four typical variations Shimmer, Satin, Sheer and Matte. Easy peasy! I'm a satin fan (all shades in this post are satins) but Pout, a long time favourite of mine and a dupe of MAC Angel, is classed as a shimmer, yet to my eye, is shimmer free. So there you go.

The formula of these can't be beat; it's creamy and on the opaque side, but still easy to wear and feels light and smooth on lips. I like to wear a matte balm under the really pigmented shades (Poppy Love and Pretty) as it makes them blend onto my lips better, but the formula isn't drying and it leaves lips feeling great. I find that it usually wears well, about 4-6 hours. Bolder, more pigmented shades (Poppy Love and Pretty) do stain a bit, but I like that I'm left with colour even after the product has worn away.

Bare Lips

Avon Colour Rich Lipstick Wink

Wink is a cool toned pink that is pretty much perfect. It isn't so cool or pale that it looks odd on, it's just a very pretty pink. This is the most neutral shade out of the four and is a colour that you can wear everyday without thinking. It's a must have type of shade that would suit a huge range of skin tones.

Avon Colour Rich Lipstick Poppy Love

Poppy Love is an orange toned red. While I love reds on other people, I tend not to wear them much. I have always felt odd with bold lip colours. Lately, I've been getting adventurous though, so I had to give this a try. I really like this shade. It is bold and a bit bright, but still classic looking. It gives a fresh pop to neutral eye looks and is quite summery.

Avon Colour Rich Lipstick in Pretty

Pretty is a fuscia tinted red. It is brighter than it reads in the photo, but doesn't venture into the "too bright" territory. I love this colour! I was totally intimidated by it at first, but it is so pigmented and gorgeous when you apply it. It looks pretty great with just some black liner and mascara. It is bold, but a very feminine, classy take on bold. Another great summer shade.

Avon Colour Rich Lipstick Mauved Odyssey

Mauved Odyssey is the one in the bunch that I was the least into. It isn't a mauve shade at all ( I love a good mauve) but it is a deep plum shade. The slightly redeeming feature of this shade is that the formula is more sheer, which allows you to layer the shade for a lighter or deeper shade. This shade also looks like it has a touch of shimmer to it.

Overall, three shades that I totally love with pretty fantastic formula. The best part? Get these babies on sale and they'll only put you back $3.99. Have you tried Avon lipsticks? Which shades do you love?
