Review: Sephora Collection Rouge Shine Lipstick

Shiny, glossy lips that end up sticky and begh... or rich colour that ends up dry and blegh... The age old lip gloss vs. lipstick. Hate having to choose sides? I do. I've always wanted to try one of the many shine lipsticks, but the $35 (and up) price tag always made me think twice, especially if I ended up with something with lackluster pigmentation. Needless to say, when I saw the Sephora Rouge Shines, for only $12 USD ($14 CAD) I knew I had to try one.

Sephora Collection Rouge Shine No.7 Matchmaker

I ended up choosing No.7 Matchmaker, a glossy, sheer cantaloupe. While all the shades have shine, there are glossy shades, and shimmer shades. I wasn't sure just how much shimmer was involved in the shimmer shades, so I opted to steer clear. The tube is pretty standard, it has a bit of a curve, giving it a bit of a modern edge. Also, there is a handy viewing window in the bottom of the tube allowing you to quickly see the shade of the product.

MAC Bare Again Sheen Supreme Lipstick, Sephora Rouge Shine No.7 Matchmaker, No.17 Mirror Shine Lipstick Beehive

I thought I'd go for a colour a bit different than my typical 'comfort' zone. In my mind 'sheer cantaloupe' would have a pinky-tangerine type hue... no. As you can see it is a pinky nude. While I do love the shade, it isn't super unique. Boo on my part, but the formula is pretty freakin' amazing. It packs a wallop of shine, and is so comfortable to wear. I have been wearing this pretty exclusively the past few weeks. It feels so great on, and I'd almost say that it's moisturizing.

The colour is sheer, but I knew that coming in. The formulation is thinner than MAC's Sheen Supreme and wears lighter on the lips. It is similar to the No.17 Mirror Shines, Sephora has more pigmentation.

I am a total fan of these and will for sure be picking up a few more shades once the weather cools down a bit (I have a feeling these might melt in the heat.) Have you tried these? What did you think?

  4. Thank you for the review and yes, these are lovely lipsticks. I have very pigmented lips and No. 7 goes on evenly, is glossy and beautifully shiny, and last on my lip 3-4 hours without a touch (is great for me) and when worn down, my lips feel as if I had an expensive lip balm on.

By the way, these are great lippies for the summertime and I had no problem with melting - actually, I wear these lipstick mostly in summertime.

    Thanks again.

  5. I love this formula but why does no one mention the horrible chemical taste/fragrance?
