Review: Vasanti Mount Rushmore Silky Eyeshadow Duo

I haven't really bought much eyeshadow lately, and have to say that I was pretty excited to play with this little duo from Vasanti. Vasanti is a Canadian brand that I really don't know too much about. I got a blush in one of my subscription service boxes and thought I could definitely stand to try out a few more of their products.

I opted to try one of their Silky Eyeshadow Duos. The taupe shade in Mount Rushmore was calling my name so my decision wasn't too hard. There are currently nine shade combos available, and all of the shades are wearable tones, so there is definitely something for everyone.

The silver plastic compact that the shadows are housed in is the same size as the Vasanti blush- which look quite small compared to other brands. It also has a full mirror. The compact is light feeling in hand, yet it seems like it should hold up well. You get 3g of product for $20, which is a pretty good price if you compare it to MAC Whims & Fancies Shadows X2 ($27.50 USD for 3g), you get two colours not only similar to the two in Mount Rushmore, but you save $7.50.

The individual shades do not have their own names (Mount for the top, Rushmore for the bottom?) but they are described as being a 'silvery taupe and a rich, matte purple.'

The top shade, is indeed a silvery taupe, but with a satin finish.I found it to be nicely pigmented and quite smooth. The texture is a bit firmer than I expected, but it didn't hinder application.

The bottom shade, is, as described, a rich, matte purple. The shadow is a true matte, with no discernible shimmer of any kind. The purple is a deep, blue based purple that would suite any skin tone. Pigmentation is a little lighter than the top shade (as to be expected from a matte) but still excellent. I didn't have any issues with chalkiness or application and the colour stayed true (even without a primer.)

Eyes: Urban Decay Sin (inner third), Vasanti Mount Rushmore top shade (lid), bottom shade (crease, and lower lashline), Urban Decay Virgin (brow highlight), NARS Larger Than Life Eyeliner in Black, L'Oreal Voluminous False Fibre Lash Mascara
Face: Cover Girl Nature Luxe Foundation in Flax, Maybelline DreamLumi Touch Concealer in Nude, MAC Soft and Gentle MSF, MAC Prim and Proper Blush

I don't always post eye looks, because I find them hard to get photographed well, but the planets aligned for me and I was able to get a few good ones taken (then my batteries died...) I used a bit of Urban Decay Sin and Virgin to brighten the inner eye and highlight my brow, and a pass of NARS liner in black to add a bit of depth. I skipped primer, because... well I don't know why, momentary lapse of judgement, I suppose, but I had great wear time. I normally wear primer under all of my shadows, so I imagine it would only make the shadows pop even more.

Have you tried any Vasanti products? What did you think of them?

  3. I'm surprised with how pigmented the purple is! So many purples are chalky, but this one looks so great!

    1. I know right?! I've worn it almost every day and I'm not a huge purple fan, but it is just a great shade and goes so well with the taupe.
