DIY: Nail Polish Phone Case

Last year, when I got my new phone, I picked up two bejeweled cases. One in a multi coloured design, the other in white/clear. I was all set for any situation- you know, the kind where it matters how your phone is accessorized.... Anyway, I ended up becoming a bit obsessed with covers for my phone, there were just too many options. That's when I got the bright idea to make my own (sort of...) using one of my all time favourite things: Nail Polish!

I started with a clear phone cover. I ordered mine from Ebay, as they're cheap and a quick search of your phone model will yield a bevvy of results. The ones I ordered were about $2 each.

The process is extremely simple: paint the inside of the case. The only thing you need to remember is that you need to add your layers in reverse, if you are going to use more than one polish. I didn't take step by step photos, because, let's face it, it's ridiculously simple, and I wasn't so sure it would even work. It didn't look so great after the first coat.

Tip: leave it to dry at least a full 24 hours. I left mine overnight and while it felt completely dry it ended up sticking to my phone a bit when I took it off. After touching it up I left it for a full day and tried it again, successfully, with no sticking issues.

Overall, I'm super pleased with how my first attempt paned out. I never really loved the effect of China Glaze Luxe and Lush on my nails, I really like how it catches the light on my case. I used Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Crinoline (Orly Pure Porcelain is essentially the same, btw) as my 'base', which allows the flakes in Luxe and Lush to flare their pale blue, green and pink tones in the light. And of course, since the medium of choice is nail polish, I had to have matching tips!

What do you think? Would you make your own phone case? What polish combo would you try?
