Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Dark Circle Eraser Treatment Concealer- Brightener

Everyone knows the magic a good concealer can do, but lately I've been more interested in brighteners. Most do conceal a bit, but it's the way a brightener... well, brightens the under eye area; diffusing shadows and hinting at a full eight hour sleep that you likely didn't get.

It started here, and then there was this one, and this, and now I've discovered yet another, that is quite a gem once you get past the mouthful of a name. Interested?

I have to apologize, as I did break an unwritten rule of the beauty blogger: don't use the product before taking photos- at least not if anyone will be able to tell. Considering this has a nifty sponge type applicator, you can totally tell that I gave this a try. I was just so excited about it that I had to. HAD to!

The packaging is quite interesting with this product, as it has a round sponge applicator atop the twist up tube. I know a lot of people have taken issue with the applicator, and the fact that it can't be washed, well it could, but Maybelline claims to have infused the sponge with an anti-bacterial solution. To care for your applicator you are to clean it with a dry cloth, without any water, as that would remove the solution. Really and truly though, I'm not concerned, you're going to be applying to clean skin (who puts makeup on without giving the ol' face a splash?) and merely dabbing the sponge on your face. You aren't going to be using the sponge to apply actually apply the product, that would just be messy and pointless.

While this product makes anti-aging claims, I can't say it delivers on them. I have none of the issues it claims to reduce other than dark circles, but I highly doubt it can actually do any of the permanent claims it makes (reduce fine lines? er....) That said, I do love how this product works to conceal/brighten. I didn't expect that this would conceal much on it's own, as it is marketed as being a brightener, and if memory serves correct the package did state to use this over their 'neutralizer' shade to cover extreme circles. I guess my circles don't fall into the extreme category, as I find this conceals well enough on it's own.

The brightener is a pale, pink toned concealer with no shimmer or any sort of reflective bits to worry about. I find the colour to be perfect for my NW20 skin. This will suit those lighter, but those with deeper skin tones likely won't be able to get much use out of this product due to it's lightness. While the brightener only comes in one shade, there are four concealer shades, and a neutralizer. Texture wise, this is slightly thin, and not all that creamy feeling, but I find it applies well and sets nicely without powder and stays put without creasing for the better part of the day.

Overall, I like this brightener so much more than I expected to. It wakes up my under eye area and stays put. What more could you want? Have you tried this product? What did you think?
