China Glaze Wallpapers

on my desktop!

Yesterday, while I was trying to sort out my polish, I started playing around with bottles of China Glaze. I am a sucker for colours all lined up together. Want to sell me something? Line it up by colour and I'm hooked. Anyway, who can resist little bottles of colour? I opted for a cheery rainbow selection, that just happens to make a happy desktop background.

I couldn't decide what I wanted the final outcome to be, so I went with three different varieties. The sun flare adds a bit of warmth to the original, hearts because, well who doesn't like hearts? And of course, the original version, which is just the basic photo with a touch of vintage flare.

Tip: if you're not sure how, right click the image and open it in a new tab. From there, right click again, and select 'set as desktop background' and Bob's your uncle!

I swear this will be the last China Glaze related post for a while.

Polish Inventory: China Glaze

Yesterday, I mentioned my messy polish hoard, and that I might attempt to inventory my stash. Today I have the first installment: China Glaze.

At 54 bottles, China Glaze is the most popular brand in my stash. And why not? Their price point is great, the formula consistently good, amazing range of shades and they're always churning out new collections with something else to love. My first China Glaze polishes were from their 2010 holiday collection. It was a very beautiful beginning, Phat Santa is still one of my top picks as best red polish.

Other notable China Glaze shades...
Flip Flop Fantasy was a summer pedicure staple for me this past season, even though it scared my cat.
Something Sweet is most likely my hands down favourite pink polish... ever.  OPI Pink Friday is a close second.
Holly Day, while meant to be a Christmas shade, is a gorgeous deep green that I love for fall.

Who am I kidding, I could go on and on. Let's just take a look, shall we?

Nail Polish Storge: Before, Then and Now

My nail polish collection on March 27th, 20ll

I haven't bought nail polish (not a single bottle) in almost a month. That is a pretty unheard of fact in my life, but it's true. It has been rough, especially the first week, but I held strong and resisted. I've been trying to cut all my beauty spending, but nail polish is one of my biggest weaknesses. Since there have been no new shades crossing my path, I've been spending more time with my current collection, rediscovering old favourites and even a few (okay, more than I'd like to admit) that I didn't even know I had. I decided I needed to work on my organization (you'll see the hoard I was working with) and maybe do a bit of an inventory. Since I'm nosy and always enjoy seeing when other people do posts like this, I thought I'd share a bit of my polish storage, then and now ( I loooove that movie, btw.)

That, up there, was my nail polish collection on March 27th, 20ll. It all fit into a little pink dollar store basket. Now, at the time, I thought I had a pretty well rounded collection, decent colour selection, varied brands, but I wasn't in love with my method of storage.

Tag: Bitten by the Blog Bug!

I've been tagged by Aly of Wonderland Beauty (if you don't already, be sure to check out her blog!) to do the 'Bitten by the Blog Bug' post! So, here we go!

Question Set:

1. When & why did you start blogging?
This blog has been through a few lives since I initially started it waaaay back in 2005. The current IKATW didn't come about until 2010. Thursday, March 18th, to be exact. I don't really know why I decided to start posting reviews and eventually transition into a beauty specific blog, it just sort of happened.

2. What do you blog about & why do you like it?
Such specific questions! I blog about makeup and nail polish and everything beauty. I love blogging because I love the subject and don't have a lot of people in my day to day life who do love the subject. Instead of babbling away and seeing their eyes glaze over in complete boredom, I babble online for all of you!

3. How did you get your blog name?
When I made my blog (as mentioned waaaay back in 2005) I had just started listening to Tegan and Sara. There is a line from 'There's Still Time' that I was (and still am) particularly fond of: 'Sunshine is days away, I won't be saved, I know all the words. I can't say that I'll love you forever.' It worked really well at the time because I didn't know what I was going to blog about and it wasn't specific to anything.

4. What do you think is your best post?
That is so hard to answer, but one that I'm really happy with is my review of Vasanti Mount Rushmore Silky Eyeshadow Duo. I love the product (go Canadian brands!) and I was so pleased with how well my photos came out. I usually have a hard time getting good photos of my eyeshadow, so to get great ones was defiantly a great post.

5. What is your inspiration for blogging right now?
Currently, it's my collection. I've been really trying to not buy as much, and in doing so, I've gotten so many ideas for posts using products I already have. It's so easy to get caught up in what's new now, and the need to buy, buy, buy, but you don't need to spend a lot all the time to maintain a good blog.

6. Message to your readers?
Thank you! There really isn't a whole lot of reason for blogging if you've got nobody to read it. There are times I think that I should have more followers, better stats, more brand contacts/sponsorship, but I didn't start blogging for any of those reasons, and at the end of the day they don't matter. It still fascinates me to know that there are like minded people who take time out of their busy day to read my thoughts/opinions.You're all awesome!

Of course, there are some rules to the "Bitten by the Blog Bug" tag:
- Answer the question set.
- Link the person who awarded you in your post.
- Tag as many people as you like!

I never know who to tag, so I'm not going to! If you're reading this, and you have a blog, consider yourself tagged! Leave me a comment if you do participate!

Tegan and Sara 'Closer'

New Tee & Ess! I was greeted to a very exciting email this morning informing me that the new Tegan and Sara single 'Closer' is out. I have been listening to them for years- I even borrowed my blog name from a line in one of their songs, and always look forward to new albums. They're sound is always a bit different than the last, yet they still sound like them. They've already released a lyric video- which reminds me of The Stroke's video for Hard to Explain, with the use of the stock footage and the dusty feel. Have a listen!

Review: Fresh Kissing Ritual Set - Plum Lip Treatment

Fall officially made it's arrival a few days ago, and I am so ready to start pulling out my jewel toned/ vampy nail polishes, warm blushes and plummy lip products. I'm not one to go with a full on bold dark lip, but I do like a bit of plum, especially when the weather cools. Something about plum just says fall to me. My first official Fall mani was Essie's Bahama Mama- a warm, creamy plum, so it's only fitting I adorn my lips with a touch of plum as well. The perfect product for the job? Fresh Sugar Plum Tinted Lip Treatment.

Review: the Balm Balm Shelter Tinted Moisturizer

'This weightless, silky smooth, tinted moisturizer (with) SPF 18 offers lasting moisture and helps to improve the tone and texture of your skin, leaving you with a polished complexion.' - the Balm

I've had this post sitting in draft for so long. I'd use the product for a few days, then switch to something else and end up forgetting most of the main points necessary for a review. I finally made a point to use this enough to chat about it at length. I'm not usually one to use a tinted moisturizer, but I've had such success with all the other Balm products I've used I had to give it a try and since I picked this up from Haute Look, the price could not be beat. The verdict? It's pretty good!

Swatched: Tart Deco and Eternal Optimist

Who doesn't love a visit to the Essie rack? I buy most of my Essies online, as I can get a better price and find the specific colours I want, but that doesn't stop me from taking a little look when I pass them in store. My latest Essie additions include one I've wanted for some time- Tart Deco, and one that just seemed to good not to get- Eternal Optimist. Since neither of these shades are new, I thought I may was well post them together, they are both from Spring collections, so they are sort of related. Let's take a look...

Swatched: Zoya Wednesday and Comparison

Some time ago, when Zoya's summer collection- Beach & Surf- was released there seemed to be a fair bit of buzz around a particular colour: Wednesday. I didn't quite get all the hubub... have we not seen enough green/blue turquoise ladies? Ugh. Then I ended up getting Wednesday in one of my subscription boxes (Glossybox, I think) and immediately wished it could have been any other shade. But, being the polish lover that I am, I had to give it a swatch, and maybe... just maybe change my mind. At least a little bit. Let's take a look...

Review: It Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores HD Finishing Powder and Jumbo Powder Brush

I think there are basically two kinds of people: those who hate their pores and those lucky enough to never have to think about their pores. I happen to fall into the first group. I have large pores and put the effort into my skincare routine to try and keep them managed. Of course a little cosmetic help is never turned down either, which is why I decided I had to try It Cosmetics' Bye Bye Pores HD Finishing Powder.

Review: Fresh Prime and Glow Primer Duo

"Achieve complexion perfection in an instant with these skin-loving formulas. Rose Freshface Primer diminishes the appearance of flaws to create a smooth finish, while Twilight Freshface Glow imparts a brilliant yet natural looking radiance to all skin tones." - product package

The impulse buy; they can be so satisfying, or (more likely than not) so regrettable. This little -ha hum... more on that later- duo ended up falling into the latter category. While it's no fault of the actual product, this duo does have some major faults.

Swatched: OPI Spotted

Like most people, when I first saw OPI Spotted I was amazed at the effect. It wasn't a shatter/crackle, but it works in much the same way- apply over dry polish. Spotted is so much more though, it creates an oil spill like cover over your base polish. Quite interesting. But, you knew there would be a but didn't you? It's a limited product exclusive to France Sephora. I opted for the easier (but a bit pricier) option, Ebay. And no, I didn't pay an exorbitant amount (some bottles were up to $90+) there was a seller who was selling bottles at a fair price, with no bidding involved.

I've had my bottle for... over a month now, and hadn't played with it at all. But, the other day when I was swatching the Nfu Oh holos, I took some time to test it out. Let's take a look!

Bundle Monster Nail Art Plates - 2012 Collection

I've wanted to experiment with nail stamping for such a long time. My initial introduction with a no name stamping plate left me a little gun shy though, so I gave up on the endeavor... Until I tried this Konad plate and had no troubles at all. Maybe stamping could work after all. I decided to 'go big or go home' and ordered a Bundle Monster kit. Let's take a look!

Review: L'Oreal Colour Riche Caresse Lipstick - Sunset Angora

I know, believe me I know... I've said no more lip products in, what, the past three posts? Yes, I have. But, much like the Revlon Kissable Balm Stains, I knew I was going to buy one (or three) of these if I ever saw them. It feels like I've been waiting for these to arrive in Canada for months. Wait? It was months, wasn't it? I don't get why it seems like so many products are taking longer and longer to get to us. Oh well, they're here and I snatched one!

Review: Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain- Darling and Honey

I finally got some! It feels like I've been waiting so long to get my hands on these... Well got them a month or so ago, and promptly sold out of every colour and my local drugstores didn't have them either. Last weekend, while I at Shopper's, I turned the corner and there they were! I know I said I was done with lip products for a while, but there was always an exception in place for these gems.

Review: Origins Underwear For Lips

Primers... When they first really started to get popular there was a bit of skepticism about their effectiveness. That's how I felt when I spotted Origins Underwear for Lips while browsing their site a few months ago. As an avid user/trier of pretty much every other type of primer, I decided I might as well give it a go.

Swatched: Nfu Oh Holographics 61, 62 and 65

This post has taken me forever to finish up... I bought these little gems months ago, when Nail Polish Canada first started selling them but I didn't pick up the Aqua Base Coat, I just figured I didn't need it. I have multiple base coats, surely one of them would suffice? No. For the record, you need the Nfu Oh Aqua Base Coat with these, but more on that later. These holos are quite popular, and for good reason, they sparkle something crazy! I took a butt-load of photos, so sit back, maybe grab a snack (I said a butt-load, that's a lot), and take a peek.

Gorgeous and Beautiful Wallpaper

 on my desktop!

You may remember this post from a few weeks ago. I was quite surprised by how many hits the post got and how many downloads the image got. I really didn't think many people would be interested. But, I love that people liked it! After I made the image for my giveaway winners post, I kept thinking that the background of it looked pretty good, so good that it should be utilized for something else... but what?

Desktop wallpaper! I know I get bored with mine quite easily, but it can be hard to find a nice one. I am always finding pictures, but quite often they are formatted in the wrong size.

I know a lot of ladies are purple fans, so the 'beautiful' version is for you. Everyone can use a little reminder every now and then, a little confidence boost every time you boot up! But, why be beautiful when you can be gorgeous? The 'gorgeous' version is for all the blue/green fans- it's my personal fave.

Tip: if you're not sure how, right click the image and open it in a new tab. From there, right click again, and select 'set as desktop background' and Bob's your uncle!

Again, any suggestions/requests leave me a comment and I'll see what I can do.

Coral-ish Blush Party

Oh, the wonders of blush! I never used to be one to wear much blush, and as odd as it is to me now, I only had two blushes when I started this blog. I figured a neutral pink cream blush, and a baby pink powder blush were all I needed... how wrong was I? My blush collection has since expanded and my colour options have as well. The other day, feeling I had been in a blush rut, started to rummage through my collection looking for shades I hadn't worn much. I ended up pulling a few coral-ish shades and decided a little swatchfest was in order.

August Glossy Box Canada

I haven't bothered to blog my past few subscription service boxes, but since this is my last one, I thought that I might. Glossy Box has been the best of the boxes I've subscribed to (Luxe and Glymm) in terms of selection and content. I've gotten the past six boxes, and haven't gotten any repeat items, or multiples of the same type of product repeatedly (one box constantly sent hair oils, every month another hair oil.) While Glossy Box is higher priced than other boxes -it's $15 as opposed to the average $10, you always get full size items, usually more than one, that more than covers the cost of the box anyway.

Review: Vasanti Mount Rushmore Silky Eyeshadow Duo

I haven't really bought much eyeshadow lately, and have to say that I was pretty excited to play with this little duo from Vasanti. Vasanti is a Canadian brand that I really don't know too much about. I got a blush in one of my subscription service boxes and thought I could definitely stand to try out a few more of their products.

Mail Haul VI

I've been trying to keep my purchases in check. It may not look like it, but I have. I've decided to put a full out ban on any and all lip products starting now. Last night I throw out at least 20 glosses that were getting a little... outdated. The sad part? Most had only been used once or twice and it has only been a few months since my last lip clear out.Err... Whatever didn't fit in my storage box and wasn't worthy of display, got the boot. Out with the old, and on with the haul!

Perfect Couple: Soulstice Harbour Island and OPI Tickle My France-y

Sometimes two polishes go together so well; they're just meant to be. Today's Perfect Couple is made up of an old favourite of mine, OPI Tickle My France-y and a new, soon to be favourite Soulstice Harbour Island.

My Face is Worth, What?

Have you ever wondered what your face is worth? I've seen this 'tag' floating around, and while I wasn't officially tagged, I thought it might be interesting to see what my average day of makeup cost. I had an idea of what my end total would be, but I was shocked when it ended up being almost double that.
