30 Day Music Challenge- Day 4: A Song that Makes You Sad

Day 4 of the 30 day music challenge brings the tone down a bit with 'a song that makes you sad'. I initially thought of a bunch of songs, but then I realized I hadn't focused on the challenge enough. A song that makes you sad. I know plenty of sad songs; songs that are excellent to listen to when you're feeling down, but a song that can actually change my mood. That took a little bit more thought.

Then it hit me...

'Calendar Girl' by Stars from the album Set Yourself on Fire (2004) is, in my recollection, the first song that made me cry. I was in my basement sorting/folding laundry listening to the album on my ipod. I was only half listening as I continued on with my laundry, but by the time the song was half over, I realized I was crying. The line 'I can't live forever, I can't always be, one day I'll be sand on the beach by the sea' always gets me. I'm not a religious person, and don't know what I believe in, in terms of the afterlife, but that just speaks to me on a deeper level than I could ever expect.

If you haven't heard of Stars (site here) definitely check them out. They're a fantastic Canadian indie band and I highly recommend a listen. What song makes you sad?
