Avon Shine Attract Lipstick- Zenergy Collection for Spring 2013

Just in time for Spring (which could hurry up a bit, I'm done with snow thanks) Avon brings us their newest offering:  Zenergy Spring 2013 Colour Collection. I've been playing around with it for a few weeks and am really loving it. It's not a huge collection, but big enough that it would end up being a monster of a post if I review everything together, so I'm going to break it up. There's eyes, face, lips and tips (ie. nail polish.)

I thought I'd start things off with lips. The lip portion of the Zenergy collection brings back Avon's Shine Attract lipstick in three new shades. Ready to take a look?

Avon Shine Attract Lipstick - Enliven*, Exhale*, and Make My Day* 5.6g $9.99

'Lip color wrapped in a gloss infused with Vitamin E. Three pretty shades to choose from, all with a hint of glossy tint; Make My Day, Exhale, and Enliven.' - Avon

Before we get into it, does 'Make My Day' not seem a bit... aggressive at name for a lipstick? I can't help but think of Clint Eastwood's famous line. Anyhow, this sort of crystal balm encased lipstick formula is not a new concept from Avon, as they have released these in previous years, but these shades are new, and limited, for Spring.

As fascinating as I find the concept to be, I've never tried Avon's version, or any other brands' for that matter, so I was excited to see how these fared. I like 'em! These feel like a balm when you apply them, but the clear gloss that surrounds the core is indeed a gloss. I was surprised at how firm it is, I expected to be softer and squishier, almost like an overly firm jell-o, but it is solid and not jelly felling at all. The clear outer gloss sort of melts onto your skin, leaving a really comfortable, lightly hydrating, glossy shine. The core contains the lipstick portion, and applied easier than I expected. As you swipe the stick over your lips the colour begins to appear. Make My Day took a little bit more finagling to apply, as it's more pigmented than the others. I found it easiest to just blend the colour out with my finger once it was on to get an even application.

Avon Shine Attract Lipstick - Enliven*, Exhale*, and Make My Day*

 Bare lips- for reference

Avon Shine Attract Lipstick - Enliven*

Enliven is a pale baby pink. After initially swatching this, I didn't think it would end up being as pigmented as it is. It is still on the sheer side, but it does give my lips a decent wash of baby pink. Those with really pigmented lips may want to skip this shade though.

Avon Shine Attract Lipstick - Exhale*

Exhale is a sheer rose gold frost. In the tube, I did not think that I would like this shade at all. It just looked frosty and not quite right, but once I got it on, totally different story. This shade is the sheerest of the bunch, but it's totally different than any other gloss/lipstick I have.

Avon Shine Attract Lipstick -Make My Day*

Make My Day is an yellow based tomato red. It looks a bit patchy in the photo above, but I didn't see that in person. As mentioned, this shade takes a bit more effort to apply because the clear portion of the lipstick makes it so you can't apply the colour right up to the edge of your lips. A quick blend with a finger or lip brush does the trick.

Overall, I kind of love these! I've been reaching for Exhale quite frequently as it's just so pretty. I love that these have a great shine without any stickiness and provide a bit of hydration to boot. Do you like these sort of gloss encased lipsticks?
