Maybelline Colour Sensational Colour Vivids

If you asked me what I thought of bright, bold lipcolours a year or so ago, I likely would have given you a blank-faced stare and uttered one word: scary. I've always found bright shades appealing, I just never felt that they were something I could do. I slowly began dipping my toe in the bold lip pool, and can now say I am quite confidant rocking bold lip colours proudly.

Buut (you knew there was going to be a but, didn't you?) I still had a bit of fear when I first heard the buzz surrounding Maybelline's Colour Sensational Vivids. VIVIDS. That words is a bit frightening, is it not? They know they're bright. They know they're bold. They'll cut you... wait, what?

They're actually pretty amazing...

I think the hardest part about pulling off bold/bright lipstick is finding the right formula. The colour may be rockin' but if the formula is difficult to work with, it's just not going to work out. I can say that Maybelline has done it right with these. They are incredibly pigmented, but also smooth and creamy. These glide on easily and feel pretty great while on. I don't find that they add any hydration, but they definitely don't dry out my lips and stay comfortable for hours.

Since I've mentioned hours, now is the perfect time to talk wear time. I've found that these wear longer than I expected, but not as long as other lipsticks. The creamy formula did wear away a bit faster than drier lipsticks, but the upside is how comfortable these wear and the fact that these wear away quite evenly, meaning you won't look totally ridiculous if you forget to touch up.

One thing I don't love, is the fact that all of these have the same neon orange cap. I don't love orange to begin with, but the same colour cap makes these all look the same when stored, and seem like it could prove difficult when buying in store, as you can't see the actual product colour. Maybelline did (sort of) make up for the uni-coloured caps by giving these colour coordinated labels on the bottom of the tube, but it still had to be mentioned.

Maybelline Colour Sensational Colour Vivids- Fuchsia Flash*

Fuchsia Flash is a vivid (der...) fuchsia cream. This shade is bright, but not so bright that it can't be worn and still look fab. I am so excited for the warmer weather now, I have a feeling this will be my go to shade.

Maybelline Colour Sensational Colour Vivids- Pink Pop*

Pink Pop is a bright, blue based pink pastel. The lightness combined with the coolness of the pink give this shade a hint of lavender. I wondered how easily this shade would be to wear, considering whitened shades can often be difficult, but this is lovely! Although the formula is creamy and smooth, you're going to want to make sure your lips are exfoliated and prepped with a bit of balm to get the best application.

Overall, these are pretty fantastic! There are eight shades in this collection, and I think it's highly likely I'll seek out a couple more. Have you tried these? What's your take on bold lips, yay or nay?
