Maybelline Colour Whisper Lip Colour

Valentine's Day is a polarizing event; some love it some hate it. I'd say I'm kind of indifferent, but I do kind of love the sentiment behind it... anyway, Valentine's Day is only a mere...*checks calendar* seven days away, and I've got three Maybelline Colour Whispers in romantic reds and pretty pinks to help inspire your look.

Whether you're single (and fabulous! I couldn't help myself...) or have plans with a special someone, these lip colours will definitely sweeten your day. And, just to put it out there, these are totally non-sticky, meaning if you find yourself heading to make-out town, you won't stick to your date. Just saying...

Maybelline Colour Whisper Lip Colour- Cherry on Top*, Who Wore it Red-der*, and Rose of Attraction* 0.11oz/ 3g $7.49 USD/ $9.99 CAD

'Pure color pigments suspended in a weightless gel. No heavy waxes or oils. Soft, sexy gel-color.' - Maybelline

When I sat down to write this post, I had to look up what these are called. Yes, smarty pants, I know that they're Colour Whispers, but are they lipsticks, tinted lip balms, gloss balms, lip butters? Huh? These have such an interesting texture that I just didn't know. So, what are they? Lip colours. Makes sense, right?

Name conundrum aside, I'm super excited about these despite my initial hesitations. I mean, there have been a ton of new lip products that have gotten us all a twitter. How many ways can you reformulate lipstick? Well, I can't answer that, but Maybelline has defiantly gotten it right with these. These have an incredibly light, silky texture, pack some great pigmentation, and finish off with hydration and shine. They're housed in simple silver tubes with colour coordinating caps. I like that the caps match the shade of the product (for the most part, there is a bit of a mismatch with Rose of Attraction) but it would have been extra helpful if the top of the cap had a clear window to see the actual product. I'd fear that people would end up opening these in store to see the actual colour, and these don't seem to have any sort of safety seal on them.

As I mentioned, these feel completely weightless on. They have some slip, but no stickiness and a fruity scent. I initially thought fruit loops, but thought maybe I was just that for thinking it, until I read another blogger mention she thought the same thing. I'm not crazy! Yet... I like the scent, but it doesn't linger so it shouldn't be a deal breaker for those with sensitivities. I found that these wore for about three hours before they started to disappear. The fact that they stay soft and slick makes them wear away quicker than other formulas. The upside is that the bolder shades did leave a nice stain.

Maybelline Colour Whisper Lip Colour- Cherry on Top*

Cherry on Top is a pinky-fuchsia. The easiest way to describe it is to think of a cherry popsicle. That's the shade you get with this. I like that this shade is a nice balance between feminine and bold and is customizable based on how many passes you apply.

Maybelline Colour Whisper Lip Colour-  Who Wore it Red-der*

Who Wore it Red-der is a pinky-red. I usually say I don't wear a lot of reds, but lately I've really come to love a great red lip. The pink in this shade makes it easily wearable for any skin tone and the shade can be worn more sheer or built up as I have. The great thing about the formula of these is that they can be built up so easily. Three passes (or more) wear as comfortably as one.

Maybelline Colour Whisper Lip Colour- Rose of Attraction*

Rose of Attraction is a medium-pale pink with light shimmer. This is a really pretty shade, perfect for everyday wear. It's a little more sheer than the other shades, but can be built up.

Overall, I really love the formula of these and with 20 shades available there is bound to be something for everyone. Have you tried these yet? Thoughts?

BONUS: two more shades swatched here in pt. 2!
