notd: oh, canada!

Canada Day is almost here, and I take great pride in the fact that I remembered to do my nails! I'll admit that I always think about doing festive/themed nails and then promptly forget only to remember the day after.... Yeah. I knew I wanted to get at least one use of Julep O Canada, which came out last July. Unfortunately Julep didn't account for the fact that Canada Day is July 1st so it didn't arrive on time so it's been sitting all alone, unloved. Time to remedy that. Read on!

The Canadian flag doesn't exactly get as much love as it's American cousin, and I kind of get why; There just isn't much you can do with a maple leaf. They're just too hard to draw... Keeping that in mind I went with the most obvious and most simplistic design- red + white + glitter.

Julep O Canada has a clear base with small translucent flakie type glitter and larger red hex glitter. Seeing it on the nail I'm not really a fan of it and the clear polish to glitter ratio is off. To get enough glitter, you have to apply a lot of polish. Boo to awkward glitters!

I do however love Julep Kate, a white polish with a pearl finish and Avon Make My Day, a classic cherry red (it's slightly darker in person.) I'm thinking of doing a full on Julep collection swatch-a-thon as I have so many I haven't worn. I thought it might be nice to have a visual reference for myself and anyone looking to see before they buy. Let me know in the comments if it's something of interest!

There you have it, my little bit of Canadian pride. Will you be donning anything festive for July 1st or July 4th?
