mac perfect topping mineralize skin finish

I love highlighter. The way it can brighten your whole look with one simple sweep... It's straight up magical. Magical, yo. Yo? Not quite sure where that came from... Anyway, when I realized I was running out of room for more blush, I moved onto collecting highlighters and quickly fell for MAC Mineralize Skin Finishes (MSF). I love MAC Mineralize Skin Fish Natural as a powder too, but today we focus on the non-natural formulation in the form of Perfect Topping. Read on!

Perfect Topping was originally released in 2009 as part of the Sugar Sweet Collection. At that time I was a MAC follower, but didn't purchase much. I quickly regretting not picking up Perfect Topping, but was lucky enough to snag one through a blog sale (yay!) Luckily, everyone else will have a chance to grab one too, as Perfect Topping is being re-released as part of the upcoming A Fantasy of Flowers Collection for Spring 2014 along with the ever popular Stereo Rose.

Perfect Topping is a pale pink-peach shade that works best as highlighter. I tend to think of MSFs as highlighters, but some do work nicely as highlighting blush. I use Perfect Topping quite frequently as it gives the slightest bit of colour and highlight and has a naturally glowing finish as it doen't have any large shimmer- something to look out for as not all MSFs are created equally.

As you can see in the comparison above, MAC has released a fair number of similar MSF shades. I happen to have the spectrum of pale beige (Lightscapade) through to bronze-peach (Redhead) covered nicely with Lightscapade, Perfect Topping, Adored and Redhead. The formulation of Lightscapade, Perfect Topping and Adored is the softer looking, glow type highlight while Redhead has a stronger shimmer and more pigment- it will work as a blush on lighter skin tones as well.

Overall, you can't really go wrong with a Mineralize Skin Finish. Perfect Topping will be available as part of the A Fantasy of Flowers Collection as of January 30th at MAC counters and online. Are you a MSF fan? Will you be picking up either of the shades?
