Drugstore Duo | CoverGirl TruBlend Foundation & Maybelline Fit Me Concealer

Drugstore Duo- CoverGirl TruBlend Foundation and Maybelline Fit Me Concealer (1)

I went through a little bit of a foundation crisis. Okay, crisis might be a bit too extreme, but still it happened. I found that the bulk of the foundations in my collection were too dark. I've always fallen somewhere between the lightest and second lightest shade (for most brands) but tend to go with the shade that falls darker as oppose to lighter because it ends up looking more natural. You know? I don't know if it was the unending winter and complete lack of sun, but this already pale-ish blogger got even paler.

I decided I didn't want to spend a whole lot on foundation so I hit up the drugstore and found two that I quite like, but one that has really been quite fab is CoverGirl TruBlend Foundation and what has become it's makeup bag buddy Maybelline Fit Me Concealer.

The first foundation I ever used was a CoverGirl one, so I'll always have a soft spot for them and it was only logical to test out their new formulation of TruBlend. I had heard great things from other bloggers too, so... You know, there's that too.

CoverGirl TruBlend Foundation instantly won major points with me because it lacks the typical CG foundation scent. I don't know what it is supposed to be, but I hate it and they have used it for waaaay too long. If you've ever used their Clean foundation, you know the scent. Anyway, TrueBlend is thankfully scent free. Second good point- the pump! Oh baby, it has a pump and that pump is glorious. It doesn't pump out too much product and closes fully making it safe for makeup bag shuffles.

As for the actual foundation- could it have taken any longer to get to it? Probably, yes... The foundation is a light textured liquid that but is creamier than other CG foundations- well save for NautreLuxe but it's sadly been discontinued. The texture blends into skin seamlessly and gives a really natural light finish that can easily be built up in areas you need more coverage. I love that this has lighter coverage, as I've come to enjoy something light but the fact that this builds so well means you can get a medium coverage and still have a natural look and feel. As I mentioned, the finish is natural and is neither too dewy or matte but the perfect middle ground. I find that this wears well over my drier areas and doesn't cling to areas with larger pores either. Good stuff all around!

Since I had the last little bit of CoverGirl Clean Foundation I compared my shade in it to the TruBlend shades before hitting the store as I've been very happy with the shade 105 Ivory in Clean. I was a bit shocked to find out it was the lightest shade in the range. That left me quite unsure of which shade would work in TruBlend and had planned on picking up both L1 and L2 but L2 was out of stock. I had planned on using L1 to lighten other foundations as it looked like it would be far too light for me, but it's ended up being a great match.

CoverGirl Clean 105 has been a great match for me, but is currently just that much too dark. What impressed me is that the shade is fairly neutral- especially for a drugstore foundation which can either be very yellow or very pink. CoverGirl TruBlend L1 is lighter and looks more yellow toned in comparison, but still has a more neutral base that works quite well for me. Any neutral toned ladies will know how hard it can be to find a good match, which is why I've included this little comparison.

Of course, one needs a little concealer to go with even the best foundation. I've been trying to finish off a few of the many (many, many) concealers I have on the go before trying anything new, but I found myself in front of the Maybelline section and couldn't help myself. I picked up the Fit Me Concealer as I've heard it's comparable to the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer which I haven't let myself try yet for the very reason above.

I never fell in love with the Fit Me Foundation- shade issue more than formula- but I am quite smitten with this concealer. It doesn't look or feel all that different from your average when you first apply it, but it gives a really natural finish and blends into skin with ease. While this does cover spots/blemishes well, I especially like the formula for under the eyes, as the formula is thin enough to blend in well and avoid creasing ( I still set it) but doesn't get cakey or dry out my skin. If you also use a light shade, do be careful when buying this as it seems like the lightest shade 10 Light actually looks darker than 15 Fair and is quite yellow toned. I find the shade works really well on my skin tone as it's not as yellow as many drugstore concealers, but I do add a dot or two of brightener to finish everything off.

Overall, I think it's safe to say that these are two great options if you're in need of a new foundation/concealer duo. Tried either of these products? Thoughts? Recommendations? Leave me a comment!
