Yves Rocher 2014 Summer Collection

yves rocher 2014 summer collection 045

While Summer is obviously still in full swing in the real world, it's actually coming to an end in the beauty world as Fall collections are already arriving (eek!) The time goes, where? I thought it was about time to get to the Mediterranean Sea inspired collection that is Yves Rocher 2014 Summer Collection before it disappears for good- you know, since it's also limited edition. Read on!

yves rocher 2014 summer collection eau de toilette and shower gel

Yves Rocher creates some amazing scents, and they've done it again with their Summer Collection- Collection Ete 2014 officially- scent. It's a fresh, citrus with a light floral note that is essentially summer in a bottle; as it should be since it's inspired by the charm of spending a summer in the Mediterranean Sea. The fragrance is a blend of lemon, mandarin, bergamot, with citrus blossoms and a light woody notes to round it out. I'm not usually a big citrus fan, when it comes to fragrances, but the floral notes softens the citrus and the woody base gives what comes across as a creamy dry-down. The scent doesn't last all that long on me- about 3 hours- but I actually like that in a warm weather scent as I'd rather reapply and have a fresh scent than have a scent change due to the heat.

Of course, you can't have a YR fragrance without the matching shower gel. The shower gel has the same bright, fresh scent as the fragrance and leaves skin feeling perfectly clean, but not tight or stripped.

Is a Summer collection really a Summer collection without a bronzer? Probably, but why risk it? the Compact Bronzing Powder is bronzey perfection- even for the palest beauties- as it's got three shades with very fine golden shimmer and beigy undertones that work to nicey warm the complexion without being muddy looking on skin. It's a touch powdery when you dip your brush in, but the powder is smooth and nicely pigmented and blends with ease. The compact is fairly large in size, so it is possible to use one shade at a time, but I do the swirl and don't find the shade to be too dark on my light skin tone.

Wearing Yves Rocher 2014 Summer Collection Eye Trio* and Gold Glitter Mascara*

If you're only going to pick up one item from this collection, let it be the Eye Trio. These might just be the most pigmented, buttery, smooth shadows ever to be made- ever! While all three shades have a fabulously amazing formula, Bronze is the butteriest, most edible shadow I think I've ever used. The bronze shade- aptly named Bronze- works beautifully with the deep teal shade Smokey Blue. Golden Beige rounds out the trio, but I wish the shade were just a little lighter in tone- more beige less gold- to work better for blending and as a highlight.

The dud in this collection, for me at least, is the Glitter Mascara. I wanted to like it, as it's gold and glittery and who doesn't want a little bit o'glitter in their lashes from time to time? But, it just didn't apply or show up very well. It can be applied on bare lashes or over your preferred mascara. I applied it over dry mascara and found it made my mascara come off and it dragged my lashes down. The upside is it didn't clump when applied but it does make lashes stick together if you play with it too much. Maybe the trick is to use it over a waterproof formula, but for me this is a pass.

Fans of colour, get ready, because these Eye Pencils pack a major punch! These vibrantly hued pencils have a creamy formula that glides on with ease, but don't completely set when dry; because of this, I like to use them as bases or as liner- Royal Blue and Mediterranean Blue look amazing when paired with an otherwise neutral look.

Royal Blue and Mediterranean Blue have a cream finish, while Lemon Yellow and Copper Brown have a more satin finish as they have the slightest bit of sheen. I found these wear quite well as liners, but need a powder shadow over them when used on the lid or they do crease a bit during wear.

Since it just wouldn't be fair to leave lips out of the game, the simply named Gloss comes into play. With three shades- a super pigmented, red toned pink, a sheer shimmery gold, and a sheer shimmery bronze- you've a wardrobe of perfect summer shades. The formula is light and completely non-sticky but with lots of shine and a bit of hydration for gloss perfection. I also quite like the shape of the applicator as it hugs lips and makes for one swipe application.

Last, but not least- did you think this post was ever going to end?- nails! The cutest little mini bottles to be exact, in five perfectly formulated shades and a crackle. The polishes all applied easily with two coats- even the yellow. While the crackle trend is pretty much over (and I was never really a fan) the teal shade is not without it's charms- especially over the Blue and Gold shades. The crackle applied easily, as it crackled nicely and evenly.

Overall, this is a great collection! I definitely recommend the fragrance, eye trio and eye pencils- especially the blue shades. See anything you're going to need in your stash? What do you look for in a Summer collection?
