Avon Anew Age Transforming 2-in-1 Compact Foundation

Every now and then something arrives for review that I just can't get excited about. It's not often, but it does happen. The Avon Anew Age Transforming 2-in-1 Compact Foundation was one of those products. It was the wrong shade- which makes foundations really hard to get a good gauge of- and just didn't interest me...at first. Persuaded by a sale, I popped my correct shade into an Avon order I was placing and gave this foundation a try. Annnd, you know what? I've been using it steady since! Read on for the 411.

So, the idea of serum in foundation is a little gimmicky, but the overall formula of this foundation just works so I give it a pass. As you can see the white serum is swirled in the compact with the foundation. Because the white serum will blend into the foundation and lighten it, it's a little tricky to gauge the overall shade just by looking at it in the pan. As you can see above, the swatches look lighter than what you see in the compact. That said, Avon does have an excellent return policy, but it's still a little bit inconvenient.

As for the compact, it's a bit on the bulky side, but it does house a full mirror and a sponge applicator in the bottom portion. While I tend not to opt for the applicators that come with products, this foundation does apply quite nicely with the sponge provided or the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge. Okay, that's a lie- you can pretty much apply this with anything. Fingers to brush to sponge, I found there was no wrong way to apply this foundation. It's quite creamy and smooths onto skin with utmost ease. When first applied it does look quite dewy, but as you blend it in and it sets, it begins to transform more into a powder. Now, I've never had much success with cream to powder foundations, but this one is so smooth that it doesn't cling to dry patches, fine lines, and pores, but instead smooths everything out. The powder finish isn't completely matte, but more like a natural skin-like finish that doesn't need powdering.

Overall, I am really enjoying this foundation! It's light-weight on skin and as mentioned has a really naturally skin-like finish with a light to medium finish that's completely buildable. I found wear time to be decent- about six hours before it begins to wear and fade- on my fairly normal skin. Plus, the fact that it's compact makes this super travel and on the go friendly. Tried this? Want to? Thoughts?
