Avon Ultra Colour Matte Lipstick | Matte Berry & Matte Amethyst

When it comes to lipstick, I've previously spent a lot of time avoiding matte formulas, but those days are long past me. I'm reformed. Not only reformed, I've come to kind of love mattes- especially for bold shades. Gone are the days when you have to sacrifice a comfortable wearing formula for a matte finish, and Avon Ultra Colour Matte Lipsticks are no exception. Read on for a closer look of Matte Berry and Matte Amethyst.

'True colour Technology: the colour you see is the colour you get on your lips. Innovative formula delivers rich, sophisticated colour and maintains a moisturizing feel. With renewable pigments for a matte finish.' - Avon

I may have said this (a few times...?) but Avon doesn't just do lipstick, they do lipstick really well, and these are pretty much perfect. The formula seems to be the same as other mattes I have from the existing Ultra Colour lineup- which Avon calls a 'soft matte'. Soft Matte is the perfect description for these, as these don't have a flat, ultra matte finish, but do have a creamy, soft matte look and feel.

The formula is perfect- how many times can I use the word perfect?- as these have a creamy smooth texture that glides onto lips with ease. These don't look to be very matte when first applied, but they kind of dry down once on and become matte but retain the creamy feel on lips. I love that these are long wearing- as most mattes are- but don't get drying on lips! You can skip the lip balm pre-application too. Yup, they're that nice.

Matte Berry is a medium depth raspberry pink shade. It looks more vibrant on the lips than it does in the tube and is a great shade if you want something a little bold, but not a full on wowzers bold.

Matte Amethyst is a gorgeous medium depth lilac with a dusty rose base. I love purple type shades, and this one is no exception. The dusty rose tones in it make it very wearable- it's not as deep as it looks in the bullet- and is a great option for cooler weather.

Overall, you really can't go wrong with these lipsticks! The Matte specific range of these lipsticks currently only has six shades, but there are mattes in the Avon Ultra Colour lineup should need more a few more matte shades in your collection. I am quite fond of Toasted Rose, Very Violet, and Vixen should you need suggestions. Do you like matte lipsticks? Tried these? Thoughts?
