This, That & Other Stuff Vol. 3

this that & other stuff 3

Who loves mini reviews? Sometimes a full review just isn't necessary- why milk it when a few sentences do the job? While I find it takes me longer to write up a bunch of mini reviews, I feel quite accomplished once the post is up, and my to blog pile is often a lot lighter too. With that said, let's get to it!

Avon Anew Clinical Absolute Even Dark Circle Corrector & Body Shop Almond Hand & Nail Cream

Under eye circles suck, right? I'm always game to try something new to lessen the shadows under my eyes, which is exactly what Avon Anew Clincal Absolute Dark Circle Corrector is designed to do. It's a hydrating cream that looks white when you apply it, but it transforms into a skin-adapting shade to help brighten and cover circles. I don't find the shade to be the best match for me as it's a bit too yellow, so I don't use this on it's own, but it's great for use before makeup as it preps skin nicely for concealer.

I love anything almond scented, and I recently uncovered a lost tube of The Body Shop Almond Hand & Nail Cream. I don't always use hand cream as much as I should, but I quite like this one. The smaller tube is perfect for in your bag and the formula is rich without being too heavy and absorbs quickly and cleanly- no slippy grease hands. I do wish it had a truer almond scent though, as this has a floral element to it.

I've mentioned the mark. Body Scrubs before, as they're pretty much perfect- the right amount of sugar based scrubiness + cleanser- but the new Moon Chill Berry scent makes them even better! It's a mix chilled berries, frosted blossoms, and moonlight musk that ends up being sweet, and a little tart, and candy like. Basically, it's good.

I've resisted trying the super popular Maybelline Baby Lips balms for a very long time, but when a tube of the new Maybelline Baby Lips Crystal Lip Balm in Gleaming Coral found me, I had to give it a go. The Crystal versions contain a light dose of shimmer and give lips a light tint of colour. I liked the feel and the grapefruit scent but don't find this gives lips a whole lot of moisture. It's nice to throw on for some shine and colour and light hydration, but it's nothing super exciting.

How cute are little baked shadow singles? I find it hard to resist the little domes of colour, and the limited edition mark. Eye Divine Soft Shimmer Shadows are worth snapping up. I have the shade Pink Sugar, which is a pinky-bronze, but these are also available in Amber Rocks, a bronzey-chocolate, and Rolling Stone, a silvery-taupe. These have great pigmentation when used dry and a lightly shimmering, satin finish, but when used wet you get a gorgeous foiled look with more of a metallic lean.

Get ready for cuteness- Mary Kay Thinking of Love Eau de Parfum  is not only adorable in a frosted white bottle with rose gold and pink accents (including a removable rose gold heart shaped charm) with a feminine scent to match. With top notes of sparkling mandarin, baie rose, and spring freesia, middle notes of Turkish rose petals and pink honeysuckle, and base notes of rich iris and Indonisian Sandalwood you get a fresh, semi-sweet floral that is really pretty and wearable for everyday. I am always a bit iffy about fragrances that are so floral heavy, but hint of mandarin really makes this something different than what you'd expect.

I tend to like simple nail art, and there is nothing simpler than adding a few studs in a cluster or at the top of the nail. My most recent stud love are these oil slick effect Born Pretty Store Nail Art Studs. They have a duo-chrome effect that flares in the light and are pretty stunning. You get the best effect with the larger sizes, but even the little baby studs have some colour variation in the right light. Love these!

I feel like I owe the Avon True Colour 8-in-1 Starry Nights Eyeshadow Palette an apology... I wasn't all that interested in it. It might be due to holiday induced palette fatigue, or the fact that Avon shadows can be hit or miss, but I just wasn't feeling it. I tried it anyway, because that's what one does as a beauty blogger, and have to say I have been completely impressed with it. The shades are really interesting- check out that periwinkle shade- and the textures are all buttery and smooth. The mattes are actually the most impressive as they're really pigmented and smooth with shades I can't say I have in my collection. The deep teal, elephant gray and periwinkle blue- which does amazing things on brown eyes- makes this palette worth it alone. I do find I get some fall out from the shades with glitter (the last two shades on the bottom row) but it's easily cleaned up. All in all a great little palette!

Did you know 2014 marked the 10 year anniversary of Lancome Hypnose mascara? Ten years and I've yet to try the original, but I have used Lancome Hypnose Doll Lashes Mascara, which was originally released in 2011. The first tube I had never became a favourite as I found the formula a little too wet and didn't love the effect it gave my lashes, but since using it again, I've found I love the look. I don't know if the formula was tweaked, but it's not a wet one anymore, and it gives lashes great length and definition. It's lighter in the volume department than other mascaras I tend to reach for, but it keeps lashes fanned out and individualized, which gives the illusion of a wide eyed, doll like look and holds a curl pretty well.

Tried any of these products? Thoughts?
