It always seems a bit odd to start into Spring collections when it's going to be full on winter for a least another month- well, I'm in Ontario, so we might see Spring by June if we're lucky. Kidding, but the snow is seriously piling up. Back to Spring though, Maybelline has given us a major boost of Spring inspiration with their newest additions to the Colour Sensation lineup. The Maybebelline Colour Sensational Rebel Bloom Lipsticks bring us pretty pastels that 'blossom with attitude'. Intrigued? Read on!

Pastel lipsticks always seem appealing in the tube, but far too often, the pretty shades in the tube do not work well on lips. Maybelline has formulated these to be pretty much perfection in a tube as these have a formula that wears really well on lips and doesn't fall victim to the usual issues that plaque pastel lipsticks. The formula utilizes a white base that works to give the shades- the collection currently has eight- a puchy pop of colour, while still being easy to wear and creamy-smooth thanks to honey nectar with a slightly shiny finish.

I have three shades from the collection- which is permanent, so you don't have to worry about hunting these down- with two being true pastels. Petal Pink is a cool, blue based, pastel pink and Lilac Flush is a cool, lavender pastel. I am always a fan of lavender/lilac shades, but any lipstick with a whitened base can be problematic. Not these! These initially apply on the sheer side, but build up to a more opaque finish. The sheer quality helps these look much more natural on lips and not heavy or mask-like. While the formula is nicely creamy and applies really well, it can still accentuate flaws and dryness, but less so than your average pastel shade. That said, these did look perfectly smooth in person (you know, from a normal, not super close up view.)

The third shade, Rose Rush, a true red that has just the slightest coral undertone on lips, isn't a true paste, and as such applied a bit differently. The formula is still creamy and smooth, but has a bit more transparency than the other shades.

Overall, I quite like these! I am especially fond og Lilac Flush which is kind of a must for every purple lip fan. I will for sure be looking out for these in store as I have my eye on some of the peachy pastel shades. Are you a fan of pastels on lips? Tried these?
