Recent Empties VI | Part One

recent empties vi (2)

Are you hungry? Thirsty? Maybe? I suggest taking a moment. Grab some water, a snack, maybe hit the bathroom, because this is likely going to get loooong. You know it's time to do an empties post when your cat knocks over the overflowing bag and steals lip balms and mascara as play things.Yeah, I've been putting this off for a while... I opted to just tackle half because nobody's got time for all that. Ready? Let's go!

The Body Shop Camomile Waterproof Eye & Lip Makeup Remover (full review)
I quite liked this makeup remover as it really did remover waterproof formulas. I get ever so pissed when remover claim to work with waterproof makeup yet can't get mascara off. I would buy it again, but I don't order from TBS all that much and I do love the L'Oreal version (this one.)

The Body Shop Camomile Sumptuous Cleansing Butter (full review)
This was the first cleansing butter I ever tired and it definitely changed my makeup removal ways. It's a great option if you're new to cleansing butters as it's not too rich, making it great for most skin types, removes every last bit of makeup (even waterproof) and comes it a great price point.

Laura Mercier Flawless Skin Perfecting Water
This was just a little sample bottle- the full size comes as a spray- but I liked it, albeit it's not anything spectacular. Althought I love a good facial mist, I likely wouldn't purchase it again as I'd rather spend the money on a hydrating serum.

C.O. Bigelow Coconut Butter Lip Butter
I think this little guy must have been discontinued as I can't find it anywhere. A shame really, because this was a great balm. Formulated with shea butter, mango seed butter, coconut oil and cocoa seed butter and that's about it. I loved how hydrating this was without feeling really oily and slick on. It was a perfect overnight balm and worked nicely on cuticles too.

Vichy ProEven Daily Dark Circle Corrector (full review)
While I didn't experience huge changes in the appearance of my under-eye circles, I did like this eye cream. It was light feeling, but still gave enough hydration and wore well under makeup. Oh, and it has a pump, love a pumpy eye cream!

The Body Shop Cocomania Body Butter & Body Scrub
I totally went overboard when this scent launched- I'm talking one of everything- only to find out I didn't love it. The scent isn't what I think of when I think Chocomania, as it has an odd floral note and is only slightly cocoa-ish. Luckily the body scrub had a much more chocolate-y scent (think brownie batter!) and had the perfect hydrating scrub formula.

Origins GinZing Refreshing Eye Cream (full review)
This was an okay eye cream for under makeup as it does give a brightening boost, but is otherwise just okay. It hydrates decently but I can't see myself picking it up again.

Yves Rocher Volume Vertige Lash Curler Effect Mascara (full review)
This was a great mascara as it gave all a bit of everything I look for- lots of length, definition and volume. It wore well but could have held a curl just tad better. Still, pretty great overall. That said, I've yet to have a Yves Rocher mascara disappoint.

Korres Jasmine Lip Butter
Are these still a thing? For a time they were the it lip product, but in reality, they're just okay. The Jasmine variety doesn't give much of a tint, although the dulce de leche scent was quite nice. Hydration was average but it did wear well. I finished mine up as an overnight balm and it worked pretty well but I won't rush to replace it.

Lancome ArtLiner Precision Point Eyeliner
This is one of my all time favourite liners! Which says quite a bit as most of my favourites are pen-style liners. While the formula wears really well, it's the foam-like tip that I really like as it makes applying liner incredibly easy.

L'Oreal Voluminous Miss Manga Waterproof Mascara (full review)
I quite liked this mascara, but I'm not a fan of how fast it dried out. I had only been using a few weeks when I noticed the formula start to change and eventually end up being kind of useless. I don't know if it's a one off thing or just a problem with the waterproof formula, but it will make me think twice before I buy it again.

NYC Big Bold Curl Mascara
For a cheapie mascara- I think this is about $5 here, so even less in the US- this performs amazingly well. I loved the length it gave although the massive brush did take some getting used to. I did find it dried out fairly fast after opening it though.

Yves Rocher Hydra Vegetal Hydrating Micellar Water 2-in-1 (full review)
I never pass up trying a micellar, and in this case I was rewarded with a pretty great formula. It's hydrating (as the name implies) and cleanses and removes makeup quite well. It struggles with some mascara formulas, but is otherwise great.

NOW Solutions Green Tea Pomegranate Purifying Toner (full review)
Having tried various other NOW products (vitamins, essential oils and what not) I decided it only made sense to try their skincare products too. While toner is one of those things that is either really bad, really good or just whatever, I quite liked this. It's gentle on skin but leaves it feeling really clean and has a great almond-like scent.

Marcelle Soothing Cleansing Water (full review)
I have quite a few micellar waters that I quite like, but one of my all time favourites is this one from Marcelle. They've recently changed the name- it's now called 3-in-1 Micellar Solution- and packaging, but it is said to be the same formula. I haven't tried it so I can't confirm, but I will be slightly devastated if they changed it. The formula is gentle on skin yet tough on makeup as this removes everything. EVERYTHING without the need to tug or aggressively wipe. It's good.

Cake It's a Slice Velveteen Hand Cream
If you like foodie scents, then this is for you as Cake's It's a Slice range has a pretty amazing orange creamsicle scent. The hand cream is quite moisturizing with a lighter texture but doesn't sink in as quickly as I'd like and leaves a bit of a greasy feel until fully absorbed. I ended up using this before bed as I prefer something that sinks in quicker for during the day.

Lancome Hypnose Doll Eyes Mascara (full review)
This is my first tube of Doll Eyes and while I've recently started a new tube and have really liked it, I wasn't much of a fan the first time around. I don't know if the formula changed or if I changed, but this one was very wet and messy and just didn't do much for my lashes.

Avon Magix Illuminator (full review)
I didn't use this much when I first bought it, but I recently picked it up again and ended up finishing it off. I use brighteners as part of my everyday routine both under the eyes (over concealer) and to highlight dark areas. This one is great as the colour is perfect for me and the formula isn't so creamy that it migrates under the eyes.

Salon Selectives Fresh 'n Up Dry Shampoo
I love dry shampoo and am always game to try a new one, especially one from a Canadian brand. I quite liked how this one gave my hair some added texture which in turn made styling easier and it also helped retain volume (can I get a hallelujah?!) While it does freshen hair it's not one to reach for if you need a lot of cleansing action as this is on the lighter side. Oh, that reminds me, this is a great one for dark hair as it leaves no residue or chalky white cast! I'll definitely pick this up again (it's only $4!) but more for styling. For greasy roots I'll stick to Lush No Drought.

Orly Extra Strength Nail Polish Remover
This was one of the most useful Christmas presents I've ever gotten. My mom gifted me with two jumbo bottles of this and I've been a very happy polisher- or remover, I guess. I love that you get this in bigger bottles (and from Nail Polish Canada) and that it works very well on even the more stubborn polishes and glitter.

My Beauty Diary Chocolate Truffle Sheet Mask
I decided it was high time to put a dent in my sheet mask stock pile, so I've been using them pretty frequently. For the most part I buy individuals because I like to change it up, but I did get a whole box of these ( I also quite like the Apple Polyphenol masks.) I think these were limited edition as they don't seem to be available any more. They're okay, they smell like chocolate and moisturize nicely, and leave skin feeling baby smooth (never a bad trait) but don't do much for me other than that.

Beauty Friends Lemon Essence Sheet Mask
If you're new to sheet masks and want to try a bunch without breaking the bank, Beauty Friends are a great option as they have 25 different formulas to choose from and to be a bit cheaper than other brands. I find there can be little difference with some of the different varieties, but the Lemon one does give skin a bit of a pick me up in terms of brightening and tightening. The effect is only temporary, but still. I also like the Royal Jelly, Tomato and Aloe versions.

Pacifica Purify Coconut Water Cleansing Cloths
I don't use cleansing cloths daily, but they're hand to have for this and that. These smell amazing, with a light, natural coconut scent and remove face makeup pretty well. They don't tackle mascara or longer wearing formulas too well, but for an average days' face they do the trick in addition to a proper eye makeup remover. I really liked how these were packaged too as it has a tight closure that really snaps shut and keeps moisture in.

Demeter Sex on the Beach Cologne Spray (full review)
This is a fun, summer scent with it's fruity combo of pineapple, raspberry and cranberry and just a hint of vodka. I didn't find this to be the longest lasting scent on me, but I wore most often in the warmer months and don't mind a scent that fades- who wants to smell like hot, stale perfume?

REN Glycol Lactic Radiance Renewal Mask
This is a massively popular mask that I had been interested in trying for quite sometime, so I was pretty pleased to find this forgotten sample. The verdict? It's okay. I was a little bit disappointed because the hype really made is seem like a winner. It does exfoliate nicely, but I like the IDC Trilogy Mask more.

And, we've come to the end... for now. I still have a another batch of empties, but they can wait for another day. Congrats if you made it this far. Tried any of these products? Finished anything lately?
