OPI Hawaii Collection | Spring/Summer 2015

opi hawaii collection (2) copy

For nail polish fans there is little better than a new collection of gorgeous polishes. Of course, sometimes, a collection comes along and it just doesn't seem all that interesting. I have to admit I didn't feel super excited about the new OPI Hawaii Collection when I saw the press info. It's definitely a collection that needs a closer look, because it does have some gems, especially if you tend to prefer cream shades. Ready to take a little trip to paradise? Read on!

opi hawaii collection-do you take lei away (3)

Do You Take Lei Away is a pale, nude-beige with a pretty outstanding formula- two easy coats!

opi hawaii collection- suzi shops & island hops (7)

Suzi Shops & Island Hops is a soft, baby pink cream. The formula is a little bit thick and was quite streaky on the first coat, but it self leveled nicely. Two coats.

Just  Lanai-ing Around is a rosey- mauve with very fine shimmer. This shade is incredibly pigmented, smooth flowing and applies perfectly. Two coats.

opi hawaii collection- hello hawaii ya (8)

Hello Hawaii Ya? is a medium, greyed purple cream. Like most of the creams in this collection, the formula is spot on and so easy to apply. Two coats, but one was almost enough.

opi hawaii collection- lost my bikini in monokini (7)

Lost My Bikini in Molokini is a vivid, grape-y purple cream. This shade refused to photograph correctly, as it's less blue in person. Again, a great formula- two coats.

opi hawaii collection- that's hula-rious! (6)

That's Hula-rious! is a pale, mint cream. What Spring/Summer collection is complete without a little mint? I found this shade to be very similar to a few mint shades in my collection, but most similar to China Glaze Re-Fresh Mint, so it's likely no the most unique if you like this type of shade. The formula was a bit thick and streaky on the first coat, but thicker coats applied smoother. Two coats.

opi hawaii collection- is mai tai crooked (8)

Is Mai Tai Crooked? is a pastel orange cream that almost falls into peachy territories depending on the lighting. The formula wasn't as perfect as some of the other creams, but when applied with thicker coats didn't cause any issues. Two coats.

opi hawaii collection- aloha from opi (4)

Aloha From OPI is a vivid (and quite bright) fruity red based coral cream. Depending on the lighting this can lean more or less pink Super easy shade- two coats.

opi hawaii collection- go with the lava flow (6)

Go with the Lava Flow is fiery, warm red filled with gold and silver shimmer that glows from within. Photos do not do this shade justice- it's a stunner! Formula is a little thin, but it does build easily. Three coats.

opi hawaii collection- pineapples have peelings too (8)

Pineapples Have Peelings Too! is an odd duck (or ugly duckling...) with it's metallic gold base packed with multi-hued and multi-sized glitter. The base is frosty and prone to brush strokes, and really doesn't look quite right on the nail. The added glitter doesn't help beautify the shade much... I don't want to say I hate it, but, I hate it. Three coats.

opi hawaii collection- my gecko does tricks (10)

My Gecko Does Tricks is an almost frosty, lime green with a light bronze shimmer and shift. I find the shift doesn't transfer on the nail that well. Unfortunately, brush strokes are an issue with this shade, although they can be minimized with careful application. Formula is a little thin/sheer and needed three coats for full opacity.

This Colour's Making Waves is a frosty, teal-kissed blue shimmer with fine bronze glitter. The formula is similar to My Gecko Does Tricks, but brush strokes were easier to minimize and was a bit more opaque. Two coats.

Overall. I ended up really liking the majority of this collection. I am quite impressed with the cream shades, with Do You Take Lei Away, Just Lanai-ing Around, Hello Hawaii Ya, and Lost My Bikini in Molokini being my favourites. While it needs to be seen in person to fully appreciate, Go With the Lava Flow is also one to grab if you get the chance. What do you think of this collection? Any shades you just have to have?
