Drugstore Lovin' | Spring Refresh

drugstore lovin' spring refresh

I think most beauty fans can say the drugstore was (and still is) a happy place. Sure, high end brands have their appeal, but there is almost always something new worth trying at your local drugstore. Plus, there is always a little nostalgia as I have fond memories from my younger days perusing Shoppers for the perfect additions to my makeup bag. Hence, my newest series: Drugstore Lovin', because I do. Makes sense, no? For the first installment, a few products to switch up your routine. Add a little new life to your everyday products with a Spring Refresh. Read on!

When was the lat time you switched out your mascara? It's easy to forget that they should be switched out every three months or so. I'm guilty of holding onto tubes a bit longer than recommended, but I did just switch out my waterproof option for a fresh tube of CoverGirl LashBlast Full Lash Bloom Waterproof Mascara. I always like to have a waterproof mascara on hand, but I find them to be even more essential come Spring allergy season. I've never loved any of the LashBlast formulas in the past, but I am a total fan of this one! First off, it holds a curl remarkably well, and does so all day, but it also gives a lot of length. I love that this wears so well throughout the day- no flaking or smudging of any kind- and that lashes look natural, but so much better than what nature gave you.

Warmer weather usually means lighter foundations, which of course is an opportunity to try something new. I picked up a bottle of Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation some time ago, but have recently started using and loving it. It's gotten a lot of praise, and I can totally see why as the light foundation gives a naturally dewy finish on skin with a bit of radiance. The formula does look pretty shimmery in the bottle, but the effect isn't so on skin. The finish is offers light-medium coverage and really dose perk up dull looking skin and gives it a fresh glow. The only downside is shade range, as it seems like there are only 3-4 shades available. What's the deal with that, Rimmel?

Obviously a Spring themed post needs something floral, for which I've got Milani Rose Powder Blush in Romantic Rose. Besides being adorably rose shaped, Romantic Rose is also a very pretty, dusty, nude-pink matte shade that gives cheeks a soft and feminine flush of colour. The matte formula is silky and so easy to apply, as it's not intensely pigmented, but perfectly pigmented for easy application that can be built up depending on your skin tone.

With Summer just around the corner, bold & bright lip shades will soon be coming out of hibernation. A bold pop of colour looks great on just about everyone, but it doesn't always go with less than white teeth...Ugh. Since yellow based or warm shades can draw out yellow tones in teeth, now is a great time to start a new routine to get your pearl whites in tip top shape. I've always been a fan of Arm & Hammer toothpaste because they really do whiten while still being gentle on teeth, so I was excited to give their new Try Radiant Rejuvnating Toothpaste and Deep Clean Manual Spinbrush a try. The toothpaste works to whiten teeth and go beyond the surface to strengthen and repair tooth enamel. I found I was able to see a bit of brightening after about a week of use and I  quite like the minty flavour as it's fresh, but not too intense. The really interesting part of the duo is the toothbrush though as i't's a manual toothbrush, but has a spinning head that rotates as you brush your teeth to provide a deeper clean. I don't know if the added part really does get teeth any cleaner, but the brush feels comfortable in hand and is a great option for when I'm not using my electric brush.

And nails! Did you really think they'd be left out? A top coat  is one of the fastest ways to liven up any polish, and Revlon Transforming Effects Top Coats do just that. The range includes seven shades, but I opted to only take home two- Nude Graffiti and Holographic Pearl. Nude Graffiti is a softer take on the graffiti style mixed glitters, with nude, pink, white, and silver glitter in a clear base. Holographic Pearls gives any shade a dose of major sparkle and scattered holo action- it really is stunning! Holographic Pearls does dry with a slightly matte/gritty texture, so a glossy top coat is best over it.

There you have it, some easy- and in most cases, cute- ways to refresh your routine on your next drugstore visit. Are you a drugstore lover? Tried any of these?
