Give the Gift of Beauty with Birchbox

Give the Gift of Birchbox (2)::: press sample / affiliate links :::

I'd like to think I'm pretty creative when it comes to my gift giving, but something I neglected to think of was a good old (but kind of new...) subscription service. Now that they're so common, you can find a service with something for pretty much everyone on your list. While it doesn't offer something to open Christmas morning, it gives the gift of something fun in the mail for a few months. Yay, not just bills! Birchbox is an option for beauty lovers on your list, and I happen to have to show you what you can expect should you gift a friend (or yourself.) Read on for a look!

First up a sample of the very popular (and pretty pricey) Sunday Riley Good Genes Treatment (10 ml). I have been interested in this lactic acid based treatment, so I was quite pleased to see it. The sample tube seems like there should be enough product for 3-4 uses. Full size will set you back $105 USD / $110 CAD.

Like most boxes, Birchbox does include a full size item from time to time. Always a nice touch. I received the new LOC Vibrant Matte Lipstick in Glam Life (0.6 g) LOC, which stands for love of colour (not Library of Congress, because nobody was thinking that...) Birchbox's own brand designed in collaboration with Youtuber Tati Westbrook. While the tube is full size, it's very little. The formula is quite nice though, with a matte finish but soft feel that isn't drying. The shade Glam Life is a deep berry red. Price: $8 USD / $10 CAD

Next up, a really cheerful and useful product in the form of Amika Perk Up Dry Shampoo (21.3 g) I'm always game for a new dry shampoo and this one sounds like it should be good. Amika says "The only dry shampoo on the market with no aluminum (phew!) and no talc, once you try it you’ll never go back to your old stuff." Sounds promising, right? The brand also has a dry conditioner which I'm very interested in. There might just be a new brand in my life... Full size will set you back $22 USD / $26.50 CAD

A sample I already love is the Juara Coconut Illipe Hand & Nail Balm (8 ml). This rich, but not greasy, lotion has a buttery texture that sinks into dry skin with impressive speed. It not only feels great on hands and citicles, but it has a fresh coconut and tropical flower scent. I'm going to need a bigger tube, asap. Full size retails for $20 USD / $26 CAD

Last up, a sample vial of Kate Spade Live Colourfully Eau de Parfum (1 ml). I like getting to trial perfumes, but I am so bad about never getting around to actually using them... I did give this a spritz though. It's very strong (and to be truthful very alcoholic for a designer scent) an comes off as overpowering but does mellow on the skin. The scent is much more lively and unique than the other Kate Spade scent I've used, Twirl (I was sucked in by the cute bottle) with notes of Hawaiian blooms- gardenia, pink water lily, and tiare flower. Coconut water, Tahitian vanilla, and mandarin. With a base of musk and sheer amber. Full size prices vary by size $75-95 USD / $90-115 CAD

Overall, I'm quite pleased with the items I received, plus no black liner! Birchbox makes a great gift for beauty lovers in your life who like to try a bit of everything. For the US, you can go monthly for $10 a month or yearly, at $110, which gives you free month. Birchbox Canada offers more flexible gift options with 3 ($44.58), 6 ($79.70), or 12 ($159.40) month options. You do pay shipping in Canada (it works out to $4.95 extra a month) which is reflected in the price. Are you still a fan of subscription services? Have you gifted or been given a subscription?
