In my experience, there are two kinds of people: people who love Hello Kitty and people who hate Hello Kitty. I fall into the first category. How can you not appreciate a bit of Hello Kitty cuteness? It's even easier to add a bit of HK in your life with the very pink Hello Kitty Collection by OPI. Read on for swatches and a few Kitty White facts along the way.
In the world of icons, one little girl shines above all others for the happiness and smiles that her image inspires: Hello Kitty. The OPI Hello Kitty nail lacquer collection includes sweet and glittering pinks, bright reds and shimmering white shades with lots of shine and seal to protect your nails and give them fabulous color.
Let's Be Friends is a super pale, whitened pink. For a super pale shade, this applies pretty easily with two coats. The formula isn't chalky and applies pretty evenly, although I did notice a few small bald patches on my nails while editing.
Kitty White is a frosty, silvery-white shimmer with a sheer formula. It's never going to reach opacity, so it's best used as a topper. I used one coat over Let's Be Friends. The name of this polish- Kitty White- is actually Kitty's full name, although I can't help but think of this song.
Small + Cute= ❤ is a soft pink pastel with just a hint of peach. It's pretty good representation of Rose Quartz. The formula is pretty great, with only some slight streaking on the first coat. Two coats.
Charmmy & Sugar is a full on shimmer-fest with a silvery, pale lavender-pink base and larger round pink and purple glitter. Two easy coats. This shade is named after Kitty's pets, a cat (Charmmy) and hamster (Sugar).
Look at My Bow! is a slightly muted, bubble-gum pink cream. It's not the most unique shade, whenit comes right down to it, but I can't help but love it. It's not too bright and quite flattering. The formula is super smooth and easy too. two coats.
Super Cute in Pink is a blue-based, fuchsia-type pink. It's got a crelly (cream + jelly) formula that is a bit sheer on the first coat, but builds easily on the second and is gloriously glossy. Two coats.
Starry-Eyed for Dear Daniel is another sparkler with a deep, hot pink foil-like base packed with pink, blue, purple, and silver shimmer. This is a full coverage glitter that builds easily with two coats. It does dry with a bit of a texture, so it may require an extra layer of top coat to be fully smooth. This shade is named after Dear Daniel, one of Kitty's best friends.
Spoken from the Heart is a coral crelly. The shade leans more pink or red depending on the lighting, but isn't overly orange in tone. The formula is a bit sheer, but builds well. Three coats.
5 Apples Tall is a warm red cream. Not the most groundbreaking shade, but the formula is super pigmented and applies pretty easily (it does run a tad thick.) Two coats. Did you know Kitty is five apples tall? She is. Bonus fact: she's 3 apples in weight.
My Twin Mimmy is a primary yellow cream. The shade is a touch more mellow looking in person. Aside from being patchy on the first coat and thicker than it needs to be, this yellow applies really well. Two coats. If you didn't guess, this shade is named for Kitty's twin Mimmy and represents her signature colour. Bonus fact: Mimmy wears her bow on the opposite side of Kitty.
My Pal Joey is a primary blue cream. I have waaay more blue polishes than one person needs, but I can't say I have any that are quite this shade. The polish is intensely pigmented and easy going two coats. This shade represents Kitty's mosey friend (he's literally a mouse) Joey who happens to be blue.
Never Have too Many Friends! is a jet black cream. It's kind of out of place in the collection, but the formula is Superb (yes, with a capital s). One coat gets you full opacity and depth. This shade name comes from one of Kitty's motto's- "You can never have too many friends."
Hello Kitty Collection by OPI Let's Be Friends, Kitty White (over Let's Be Friends), Small + Cute= ❤, Charmmy & Sugar, Look at My Bow!, Super Cute in Pink, Starry-Eyed for Dear Daniel, Spoken from the Heart, 5 Apples Tall, My Twin Mimmy, My Pal Joey, and Never Have Too Many Friends!
Overall, I quite like this collection. Even without the Hello Kitty connection (and adorable HK wrapped caps) the shades are pretty great. They're not all the most inspired, but do make for a good Spring palette. I'm especially fond of Small + Cute= ❤, Charmmy & Sugar, Look at my Bow!, and My Pal Joey. What do you think? Need any of these shades in your stash?
