Maybelline has some interesting products hitting drugstores this season, but one of the most anticipated are the new Maybelline Colour Tattoo Concentrated Crayons which combine the Colour Tattoos we all love, but in an easy to use chubby pencil format. The question is, are they as good as the potted version? Read on for my verdict...
Maybelline Colour Tattoo Concentrated Crayons- Barley Beige, Lavish Lavender, Lilac Lust, Bronze Truffle, Creamy Chocolate, and Charcoal Chrome 2.2 g $6.99 USD / $8.99 CAD
Well, are they (as good as the potted version?) Pretty much! The formula feels a bit thinner, but is still creamy, quite pigmented, and pretty easy to blend. I say pretty easy, as the deepest shade- Charcoal Chrome- took a little bit more effort, but did get there. The crayons are easily swiped on the lid, with a pretty opaque coverage when layered. A finger easily blends the edge, but a blending brush works too, although I did find I lost some coverage when I used a brush. The cream takes a moment to set, so you have time to smudge and perfect it, but once set it's not going anywhere. I find these last really well on my eyes and last the day with no creasing and only the slightest bit of fading.
Of the ten shades in the range, I have six, which all have a similar, frosted-pearl finish. It will be interesting to see if more matte or satin shades follow. The shades are all easily worn, with a few being designed to resemble existing potted Color Tattoo shades. Barley Beige being fairly similar to Barely Branded, a gold-kissed beige, and Bronze Truffle coming very close to everyone's beloved Bad to the Bronze.
Overall, I really like these! Much like the original potted version, the wear well on their own for a wash of colour on the lid, but also wear great as a base for shadow. The chubby pencil style makes for easy (and fast) application and the fact that the tubes twist up means no sharpener necessary. I did give a tub on the end to see if a tip sharpener was included, but not such luck. A girl can try. What do you think- will you or have you tried these? Thoughts?
