::: I bought it :::
Last year, Chimes Ginger Chews found their way into my life, and brought with their tasty little selves an idea for a new blog feature. I had the name, I had the catch phrase and the first product to feature annnd never actually did it. I wanted to feature more lifestyle content last year and didn't quite follow through with that either, so 2017 is all about follow through starting with The Sweet Tooth. Why? Because life is too short for bad candy (see, that as the aforementioned catch phrase.) How does candy fit in with this week's resolutions theme, you ask? Good question! As many tend to do, you've likely decided to eat a bit better this year (or at very least, this January.) Eating better doesn't have to suck though, you can still have something a little tasty every now and again without throwing your healthy eating plan out the window. In step Chimes Ginger Chews.
Chimes Ginger Chews are just that, little chewy pieces of spicy-sweet ginger candy. They're simple, combining just a few ingredients- fresh ginger, cane sugar, and tapioca starch- but so good! Not so much if you don't like ginger, I suppose though.
The candies are made in Indonesia, and have been since 1935 using the same recipe used to this day. The Chimes company has taken strides to do more than just create amazing candy, but hey also work to do their part for the environment. Their headquarters is equipped with solar panels which have saved the earth from over 730,000+ lbs. of greenhouse gases annually. Not too shabby.
I know, you're really more interested in the candy. The Ginger Chews come in Original, Peppermint, Orange, Peanut Butter, and Mango flavours. They're vegan, gluten-free, additives and preservate-free, and all natural. The chews come individualy wrapped, and while they can be a bit tricky to unwrap, are very much worth the effort.
I first tried the Peanut Butter Ginger Chews, which have a smooth nutty flavour that combines with the sweet-spicy ginger. I was hooked from the first try, so I opted to try the Mango chews as well. They have a sweet fresh mango flavour but pack a much more intense ginger punch compared to the Peanut Butter chews. I can see them being too intense for some, but are worth trying if you're a ginger fan and like a bit of warmth.
While the candy isn't much to look at, they are just sweet enough to feel like you've indulged, but spicy enough that you don't feel the need to eat the whole bag. A serving is four candies, and while I do have a sweet tooth, am happy with two. It doesn't affect the taste, but I also love the branding and vintage-style illustrations on the bag- I'm a fan of the creepy-cute moon man. Chimes Ginger Chews can be found on a few websites, but I order from well.ca (they ship to the USA as well) and carry all of the flavours and package sizes. Are you a ginger fan? Tried these?
