Urban Decay Nocturnal Collection

urban decay nocturnal collection::: press sample / affiliate links :::

Happy Monday, blog fans! Did anyone watch The Handmaid's Tale? It premiered here (aka Canada) last night and I was/am way too excited about it. It seems like it's going to be really good, I just wish they'd air more than two episodes at a time. I want them now, please. It's also got me wondering when the Madadam series will actually become reality now that HBO has dropped out. I highly recommend the series if you've yet to read the trilogy. Anyway, you're likely not here for Atwood talk, so let's get to the news at hand.... Urban Decay has recently launched on Shoppers Beauty Boutique! Big news for Canadian beauty fans, as it makes UD that bit more accessible and you can wrack up Optimum points at the same time. Beauty Boutique so kindly sent a few products from the Nocturnal Collection, so lets get to them...

The main component of the collection is the Nocturnal Shadow Box. The limited edition palette is smaller than your typical UD palette, but is still home to twelve shadows, full size mirror, and double ended brush (blending/smudger). The shades range from warmer leaning neutrals through to bolder colours, making this a pretty well rounded palette for all occasions.

Shadow quality is pretty even, with all shades being nicely pigmented (some more or less than others) and an easy blending formula. Fall-out was common with most shades, add glitter fall-out to Midnight Cowboy Rides Again and Riff, but it's something I can accept from a shadow if it performs well in all other categories. The metallic and duo-chrome type shades are the most impressive, with super buttery and smooth textures.

Of the twelve shadows in the palette, eight are 'must-haves' from the permanent range, while the remaining four are shades that were exclusive to previously released sets/palettes. This means serious UD fans may already own these shades, but the average fan likely doesn't. The shades included are:
  • ABC GUM pale peach matte
  • MIDNIGHT COWBOY RIDES AGAIN light pink champagne shimmer with silver glitter
  • BABY cool metallic rose
  • HALF BAKED golden bronze shimmer
  • RIFF brown-nude matte with floating micro-sparkle
  • DELETE deep chestnut brown matte-satin
  • FIREBALL peach satin with pink shift
  • BACKFIRE burgundy satin with purple shift
  • LOUNGE brick red satin with green shift
  • ARMOR metallic silver-taupe with tonal sparkle
  • HEROINE deep navy blue with subtle floating tonal pearl
  • BLACKOUT blackest black matte

The Nocturnal Collection is also home to four new and limited edition Nocturnal Vice Lipsticks. Of the four shades, I have Lawbreaker (warm nude, sheer finish) and Backstab (burgundy with metallic sheen, cream finish.) Both have a creamy, smooth finish with a bit of shine and an easy wearing, hydrating feel thanks to the Yummy Butter Blend (aloe vera, jojoba, avocado and babassu oils)

Overall, this is a great little collection! I love the shadow shades, as the palette includes shades I've been interested in adding to my collection but never did- hello, Lounge! The smaller palette size makes this an excellent option for travel as well. As mentioned, you can now find Urban Decay online at Beauty Boutique, as well as all your usual shopping spots (Sephora, Ulta, UD, etc...) What do you think of this collection? Yay or nay?
