Back to School Cool with Quo | Fall 2017

quo back to school (2)::: press sample :::

You know what September means... Pumpkin spice everything! Wait, no. I mean, yeah it does, but that's not what quite what I was thinking. It's back to school season! Now, if you're like me, you haven't been back to school in a few years. Whatever. I still get a bit excited about the season as I happen to be a major lover of school supplies (aka stationary) and take every chance to pick up new additions to my stash. That said, there are also beauty finds to be... well, found. Quo is offering up some most excellent option this year that are sure to please just about everyone from makeup newbies to seasoned collectors.

Of the three sets that make up the Quo back to school offerings, let's chat up "My Makeup" Notebook Palettes first. What I love about the makeup sets (including this one) is that Quo has ditched your standard useless packing, and instead housed everything inside of large, transparent pink makeup bag. It's such a great idea!

This set includes three notebook looking palettes that feature inspirational words on the cover (confident, brilliant, and beautiful) with four shadows and a blush inside. Two of the palettes feature nor neutral offering, while the third is cooler in tone with more smoke-able shades. You never really know what to expect with quality, but the powders are very decent with a nice amount of pigment and easy blendability. Some shades (the more matte ones) have a bit of powderiness, but when over a primer create pretty eye looks.

The second makeup set on offer, the Total Beauty Kit, sets you up with a full collection of pretty neutrals that are perfect for day-to-day looks (aka totally school appropriate.) The stylish, mod-inspired black and white packaging is cute but also ties everything together, which is a really nice touch. It also looks pretty great in the transparent pink bag.

As for the goods, you get:
  • Eyeshadow Palette: four cool-leaning neutral shades with three mattes and one light shimmer.
  • Kohl Eyeliner: basic black liner, but with an easy applying, smooth formula.
  • Cream Blush: neutral-pink shade with a creamy, easy applying formula.
  • Cream Highlighter: gorgeous shimmering pearly shade. I'm actually very impressed by the blush and highlight formulas.
  • Lipstick: pink-beige nude with a semi-matte formula.
  • Lip Gloss: sheer nudey-pink cream gloss. Only the slightest bit tacky and wears well for a few hours.

quo back to school brush set
Quo Brush Set $38 CAD

Wrapping things up with what just might be my favourite offering- the Brush Set. The set includes a black with pink trim leather-look makeup bag and five brushes for face and eyes:
  • Powder: mid-sized fluffy brush for applying setting powder and powder blush.
  • Contour: flat, angled cut for applying powder contour.
  • Eyeshadow: slightly fluffy, all-over shadow brush
  • Crease blender: domed crease blender, not too fluffy and great for more precise placement.
  • Angled liner / brow: standard angled brush, always useful.

I love the slightly subdued rainbow hues of handles as you only need so many black handled brushes. The handles feel almost lacquered, with a nice weighty feel in hand. The bristles are super soft, with all of the brushes having a nice density for their purposes.

Overall, some really great Quo offerings! I love that the shades offered are school and work-centric, making everything easy for makeup novices of any age. The limited edition sets are available now at Shoppers Drug Mart locations across Canada. What do you think? Are you heading back to school this season?
