Mary Kay Spring 2018

mary kay spring 2018 (9)::: press sample :::

Spring is taking its sweet time arriving (as per usual) but at least spring makeup is still rolling out on schedule. Mary Kay has taken a pared down approach with their 2018 collection, but it does feature a few bits that are perfect for reviving your stash.

"I have too many brushes..." said no one. Okay, maybe uttered while washing brushes, but that's about ti. A few extra brushes are always welcome in a collection, so I was more than happy to introduce the Essential Brush Collection into my rotation. The all black brushes are full size and come in their own carry-all pouch.

The set features all your must have brushes including:

  • All-Over Powder Brush: a plush, tapered powder brush. Works well for applying setting powders and even for blending contour and cheek colour.
  • Cheek Brush: an angled fluffy brush with a three-in-one shape for applying blush, contour and highlight.
  • All-Over Eye Shadow Brush: a basic, must-have flat brush for packing on colour.
  • Eye Crease Brush: an angled take on your average crease brush designed to easily blend in the crease.
  • Smudger Brush: a tapered, pointed brush that is great for smudging or applying deep shades to the outer corners.

The bristles are made from a high-grade synthetic material that is both durable and flexible to give your brushes prolonged wear and to minimize fallout. Said bristles are super soft, and perfectly dense which along with their synthetic material, make them perfect for use with powders, creams, and liquids alike.

Clearly a little colour is necessary. There are two new limited edition Mineral Eye Colour Quads available. They're the same little split pans MK has done in the past, so you do need a palette or compact to pop them into.

Berry Haute offers up, well, a selection of berry hues. The shades are mostly satin-shimmers, but the first shade (soft orchid) is mostly matte. The deepest shade (blackened plum) is not only gorgeous, but incredibly pigmented and allows for a really pretty smoky berry look.

Shades of Jade combines green hues, all in a satin-shimmer finish. The shades are gorgeous, and blend together to create a really wearable look, but I did find the minty-aqua shade to be less pigmented on the eye. The upside to the mineral formula though, is that it does foil for more pop when applied wet.

Overall, some great additions to the brand. Are you ready for more spring-feeling makeup shades? Have any Mary Kay faves?
