When it comes to skincare, my favourite type of products are always evolving and shifting depending on my skin, but one constant is always exfoliation. I am always up to seeing brighter, smoother, more refined skin and there really is no better way to get there than exfoliation. While chemical-based exfoliation can be a great way to get there, there is something to be said of a little physical action (insert your double entendres here...) Lately, it's the PMD Microderm that I've been a little (or a lot) obsessed with, as the device makes professional level midrodermabrasion an easy at home process.

PMD is all about microdermabrasion, I mean look at their name- Personal Micro Dermabrasison. Their range of beauty gadgets is quite diverse, but their at home microdermabrasion devices are where it all started.

Of their range of said devices, the PMD Personal Microderm Classic is the perfect option for those looking to get started in the realm of at home microdermabrasion as it offers the basics in one super easy to use tool. The Classic device utilizes one speed to make the process as quick and simple as possible, but still offers a customized experience with three levels of strength. It's also available in a few shades too (think pink, blue, grey, and teal) for that little extra level of customization. A nice touch, right?

When you first open the box, you're greeted to the how-to guide (which is pleasantly short) the device itself, charger, body cap, and various strengths of microdermabrasion tips sized for both face and body. The device comes pre-equipped with a low-level training disk so you're able to test the device and figure things out before diving straight in. Another nice touch because we all hold our faces pretty dear.

I'v realized I've said the word microdermabrasion multiple times already, but haven't really covered what it is. I mean, what exactly is it?

Microdermabrasion combines suction and exfoliation to remove the outer layer of dead skin (aka the stratum corneum.) By doing so, skin looks more radiant, fresh, and better yet, younger. We all want younger.

The process of microdermabrasion not only gives skin a more refined, smoother look and feel because the dead skin is removed, but the suction part of the process works to stimulate the body's production of collagen and elastin while stimulating skin cell renewal. Revived cell renewal also works to generate new, healthy skin for that always coveted brighter, softer, smoother skin. Continued use can result in diminished appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, pore size, blemishes and dark spots making the process ideal for just about everyone.

Another bonus (you know, if all that didn't sway you) the process also makes your products work better since they don't have to penetrate through the dead stuff to get to where they can actually perform. After microdermabrasion, products are fully absorbed for maximum benefit and efficacy.

As mentioned, the Classic Microderm device has a few different options for your microdermabrasion needs. The device can be be used on both face and body, and includes the required tips (called discs) for both in very sensitive (grey), sensitive (blue) and moderate (green).

The discs featured a patented design that is hand dipped in aluminum oxide crystals (the same happens to be used in most in office, doctor applied microdermabrasion) as they're completely safe, non-toxic, and won't cause any adverse skin reactions.

I have to admit, even as a fan of exfoliation and all things brightening, I was initially a little nervous about using this device. It was a pointless worry, as this device really is fool-proof and SO easy to use. The instructions are very to the point and easy to follow (they literally map out the method you use) but PMD also has a short instructional video to make your first session even easier and stress-free.

Since receiving the device, I've used the very sensitive discs three times (once a week) and will be working my way up to moderate. My skin tends not to be all that sensitive, but I wanted to get a feel for the device and how my skin reacted before going right to moderate. So far, I've seen some positive results, and expect to see more visible changes as I progress to a higher strength disc. My skin definitely feels smoother and I've noticed less issues with makeup settling into pores in my problem areas.

Overall, I'm really pleased this device! It's a bit of an investment when you take in the initial price, but compared to spa or in-office treatments, the cost per-use is pretty much a steal. PMD completely spoiled me and also sent the PMD Kiss (a lip plumper) and the new PMD Clean, a silicone cleansing and anti-aging device, which I'll be featuring soon. Any of the PMD gadgets make great additions to your skincare regime or gifts (hello, mother's day and graduation...) They're even better on sale, right? By clicking through the links in this post and providing your email address, you receive 25% off your purchase. Not bad, right?

What do you think? Are you interested in trying at home microdermabrasion? Have you used any PMD devices?
