The Fast Five | NYX Lip Edition

I recently had the opportunity to test a few different NYX lip products and realized, when left to my own devices, I will always choose a nude or neutral lip. What can I say, I know what I like. Aside from my shade preferences, I also realized that the NYX range is home to some truly superior lip options. Interested? You know what to do?

As much as I've been loving a glossy lip lately, I'm not ready to give up on matte options. Luckily, NYX has matte offerings that toe the line between matte and creamy. For traditionalists, there is the Suede Matte Lipstick that offers a creamy feeling formula in a soft mate finish. In the tube, the lipstick looks quite velvety, but once applied does have a nice creaminess that applies like a dream. The shade range is pretty impressive, with twenty-four options, but it was Dainty Daze, a pink-based nude that I was instantly drawn to.

For those looking for something a little innovative, there is the Powder Puff Lippie Powder Lip Cream. The mousse-like lip colour starts off creamy but then dries slightly to a mate powder. Well, I didn't find it dried down completely, but instead stayed a little balmy. Regardless, the finish is that of a soft matte that is incredibly flattering and non-drying. The shade range is decent, with sixteen options, with Cool Intentions being a light brown with pink undertones. As much as I love the look of this, the applicator could be improved for easier application. The product dispenses through a rounded sponge tip, which is fine, it's just that the rounded tip makes clean edge work a little tedious.

For glossy lip lovers, NYX has the very popular Butter Gloss range. I have somehow never tried these, but the easy wearing formula is pretty much perfect! I opted for the shade Angel Food Cake a neutral pinky-mauve that gives a great wash of colour and shine with a lightly hydrating feel. Oh, and even better, zero tackiness.

For something a little more substantial, there is the opaque and pigmented Slip Tease Lip Lacquer. It gives the full colour of a lipstick with a glossy finish. The texture isn't tacky, but is a little heavier on the lips and wears best with less. Less in this case is more, but the hourglass shaped sponge tip applicator does dispense a lot with each swipe. The shade range is a neutral lover's dream with a ton of options in the twenty-for shade offerings. I opted for First Date, a peachy beigey-nude.

We're dipping out toes into non-nude territory now... I know, change can be scary, but as of now, NYX doesn't offer their #ThisIsEverything Lip Oil in nudey shades. That said, the formula is so nice I don't even mind. The oil has the texture of a light balmy lip gloss, while the shade Sheer Berry gives the wash of berry colour and has a soft vanilla-cherry blossom scent. I give them points for trying something different, scent wise, but it comes across a bit like cough syrup to me...While the formula isn't as fully hydrating as a true lip balm, this is a really nice option to swipe on for a little added hydration and shine.

Overall, some lip products I've really been enjoying! I don't know how it has taken me so long to hop on the Butter Gloss train, but I'm fully feeling the formula and can see why the range is so popular. What do you think? Have you tried any of these products? Do you have any brand faves I should try?
