Cactus Cute | Quo Spring 2019 Collection

quo spring 2019: : : press sample : : :

Completely unrelated, but I just trimmed my bangs. It was totally stressful (it always is) but I always convince myself I can do it. I mean, I can, but my blood pressure must spike something crazy. Regardless, I am pleased to put the event behind me and chat makeup. No, not just any makeup, but the super adorable, cactus-clad products that make up the limited edition Quo Spring 2019 Collection.

There is a palette for every need, starting with the Quo Sand Dunes Face Palette. The palette features three highlights and one contour shade to be 'your all-in-one solution to the latest looks, from dramatic contours to a soft, natural glow.' The shades feature adorable relief versions of the collection's cactus friends.

The Sand Dunes palette includes a glowy, soft champagne, a glowy bronze, and a golden pink highlight along with a beige-tan satin contour shade. Each powder has a gorgeous, buttery texture that applies seamlessly on the skin. I was also very pleased that I'm able to use three of these shades on my light skin. The champagne and pink highlight (which buffs on lighters than it swatches) and the contour will all work on light to medium skin. The bronze shade is too deep for a highlight, but would look incredible on deeper tones and can also double as eyeshadow.

quo spring 2019 luxe buffing brush

A stupendously soft, rose gold buffing brush? Yes, please! The Quo Luxe Buffing Brush is a dense, paddle-style buffing brush. It has incredibly soft, supple bristles that work to buff on cream, liquid, and powder products with ease and are designed to not only create a natural finish, but also absorb less product . The all rose gold hardware is stunning, but also sturdy feeling so you can buff away without fear of the handle snapping.

In the 'super cute, but a little over-priced, and I probably won't ever use it' category is the Quo Cactus Sponge. Comprised of two little latex-free sponges that fit together to form a cactus and its pot, this sponge just isn't very practical. Oh, and it's quite firm. I tend to love the Quo sponges (the typical egg ones) as they're perfectly soft and pounce-able, but between the shape and hardness, this is a passable item in the collection.

I didn't exactly know what a Cream Lip Stain was... You either? As Quo states, it's 'a creamy lip stain to finish your spring makeup look. This formula starts as a gloss, finishes as a stain, and delivers the same high-pigment payoff of a lipstick.' Sounds good, but it's a liquid lipstick. Nothing too crazy different here. Granted, it is an easy wearing, not overly drying, doesn't flak off oddly type of formula. The shades are also very spring-y with Mariposa, a coraly-pink, and Apache, a soft chocolatey-nude. Oh, how could I forget? The tops feature the collection's cactus friends and the most adorable silicone cactus flowers.

Eyes weren't left out of the fun, with these two adorable palettes offering perfect spring to summer hues. The Quo Eye Shadow Palettes each feature four shades, with satin-mattes and shimmer finishes and again, those cute little cacti.

The Desert Sun palette includes beige satin-matte with soft gold glitter, a subtle sunny yellow with the same satin-matte sort of finish. What's a satin-matte? Well, it applies like a matte, but does have some inner glow. Continuing on, there is a warm bronzed brown shimmer and a copper shimmer.

The Desert Rose palette takes on a cooler feel with a pale pink-beige and coraly-pink satin matte, a shimmery taupe and a shimmery cactus green.

As much as I love the pop of yellow in the Desert Sun palette, I opted to put a little Desert Rose look together. I was inspired to recreate a little smokey number I saw on Instagram (this one.) I used the first light shade under my brow and down to my transition. I then added a bit of green liner on the lower half of my lid and smudged it out with the green shadow on top. I then used the taupe shade through the crease blending it into the green. I added a pop of the champagne highlight from the face palette to the inner corner and ran the coral shadow on the lower lash-line. Mascara and lashes (these ones, again because I can't get enough of them) finish everything off.

Overall, this is a fun little collection! I love that all of the formulas are so pigmented and easy to work with, plus, the adorable little cacti don't hurt. I should mention, if you're non-Canadian, Quo is the house brand at our chain drugstore Shoppers Drug mart (like Walgreens or CVS in the US.) So, what do you think? Interests in any of these products? Are you ready to sport spring shades?
