I recently purged a lot of my foundation collection. It sounds terrible to admit, but I was holding onto a lot of foundations that were either so completely not my shade, that I hated, and that were just too old to put on my face. Why let them take up precious space when there is a whole, wide world of better options. right? What am I getting at... Oh, right. The Revlon PhotoReady Candid Collection recently found its way to me, and I have to say, I've been incredibly happy with it.

Primer isn't a most-have for me, as I tend to go for more skincare pre-makeup, but I'm always up for something a little illuminating. The PhotoReady Rose Glow Hydrating Primer is a bit of both (skincare + illuminating, that is.) The water-based primer is infused with encapsulated oil beads to hydrate and features pearlescent quartz to illuminate. I was very pleased with the fact that the beads easily burst without leaving little bits on your face. The formula is light and absorbs quickly, but does leave a light level of hydration and softness. The golden glow is subtle, but does perk up the look of skin without looking like shimmer.

Finding the perfect foundation is a task regardless of price-point, but it can be exceptionally hard at the drugstore given your skin-type. Having drier skin, I often struggle as it seems many formulas aren't super forgiving when it comes to dryness. The PhotoReady Candid Natural Finish Anti-Pollution Foundation happens to be a much better option if like me, you deal with dryness. The creamy, fluid texture offers a 'skincare inspired' formula that features antioxidants, anti-pollution, and anti-blue light ingredients while being easily blendable and buildable. They've also left out oils, parabens, phtalates, synthetic dyes and fragrances for a more skin-friendly formula.

The finish is indeed natural, being skin-like and either too dewy or matte with a lighter-medium cover. It claims to be medium, but I find it a bit lighter, which is great for a more natural look, but can be built if you have some areas in need of a little more cover. As mentioned, this sits well on drier skin, as it doesn't settle into dry areas. Housed in a pumper-tube, it's incredibly easy to travel with and apply- the perfect small amount is dispensed with each pump. The shade range is okay (with 22 shades in Canada and 31 in the US) but I do love that they offer cool, neutral, and warm options with a handy shade chart to compare your shade.

Clearly, a foundation only gets you so far until you need to hand the job over to concealer. The PhotoReady Candid Antioxidant Concealer is a great drugstore option. With a similar antioxidant infused formula as the concealer, it offers a medium coverage with natural skin finish. I was very pleased how nicely this covers imperfections (mainly dark circles) as the creamy formula isn't drying and blends so easily under the eyes. I always set my concealer under the eyes (more on powder in a moment) so I can't speak to it being non-ceasing, but it does wear well for the day without fading or getting cakey looking. The applicator is a larger, curved doe-foot, that works perfectly with the concealer texture and doesn't result in over application.

The shade range is again, just okay (13 shades in Canada, 18 in the US) but they do offer a yellow shade for brightening and colour correcting. The very fair won't find a shade match concealer match either, as 005 Fair is the lightest shade option. I found it to look a little warmer / golden toned than I would opt for, but it works very nicely once on skin.

revlon candid collection powder

I generally don't opt for drugstore powders as I've gotten older, as they're just not quite as nice as pricier option. With that in mind, I apprehensively added the PhotoReady Candid Anti-Pollution Setting Powder into my routine. I honestly didn't expect too much from it, but I was so wrong... It is the silkiest, smoothest, finely-milled powder. It seriously stands up to powders twice the price. The powder has a light, silky feel that offers a translucent, blurring effect that is pretty much perfection. It sets under the concealer beautifully (and the whole face, of course.) I love that it doesn't look like powder (read dry and, well, powdery) with a naturally matte but not flat finish. Oh, almost as great as the formula is the package- it has a stopper on the sifter! It keep mess at bay and only dispenses a little powder at a time. Such a win!

Overall, I have been so pleased with this collection! It's so nice to see great complexion products at the drugstore that aren't outrageously over priced (nobody wants $25 drugstore foundation.)  The powder and concealer are especially great options, but you really won't go wrong with any of these. What do you think? Could your routine use any of these products?
