Summer Beauty with Almay

Summer days are trying to peek through, and I'm sure once they're here I'll regret saying that I'm actually ready for warmer days. Until the sun is officially here (it's still grey, overcast and just a bit rainy...) I'll be adding a few Almay products into my routine to get the summer vibes flowing.

My skin is typically pretty even, but the occasional hormonal breakout is pretty common (yay!) That said, the summer heat and resulting sweatiness, can cause some unwanted 'friends' to pop up. For that, the Almay Clear Complexion Blemish Armour is great to have on hand. The liquid treatment dries clear to create an invisible 'patch' over blemishes to create not only a smoother surface (perfect for prepping before foundation!) but to also treat them with 2% salicylic acid. The treatment is so much more than I expected as it truly does smooth and soften the look of blemishes.

When it comes to summer eye makeup, the heat often plays a part in how much effort I'm willing to exert. On the sweltering days when you want a little something, but aren't willing to do much work, the Almay Velvet Foil Cream Shadows are the perfect product. The cute little paint tubes feature a cream shadow formula that is long-lasting with a budge-proof finish that sets (no creasing!) The cream is really well pigmented and blends out with ease for a pretty opaque wash of colour. The range offers a decent range of shades, but it's the neutrals I've been enjoying with Paradise Found (golden khaki green) and End Game (bronzey chocolate brown). They are perfect smudged and blended out with a bit (okay, a lot) of mascara.

If it's not quite so warm (aka my preferred kind of summer day) and I'm willing to do a little more work, the Almay Smokey Eye Trios are an easy way to get smokey. They feature three curated shades to create an effortless look. Smoldering Embers features a brown lid shade, plummy-purple transition, and beige-y highlight. I've found the pigment to be a little lighter than I'd like for a smokey look, but when paired with a brown liner (smudged on the lid before the applying the brown shade) you can up the intensity and depth to create something really pretty.

For another quick shadow option, the Almay Eyeshadow Squads offer a four monochromatic shades to create a cuter look without much fuss (or thinking, for that matter.) The squads offer a selection of various textures with a matte, shimmers, and a more glittery option. I found the shimmers to be pretty decent and build-able in terms of pigmentation, but the matte shades... they're not the best (think dry, sheer, and really just not worth the effort.) The Unplugged quad features tan-beige shades while the Ambition quad features cooler, chocolate-taupe options.

I am pretty picky when it comes to my mascara, and to be honest, usually only use waterproof, buuuut, the Almay Liquid Lash Extenders Mascara is pretty okay. I say okay, because I still tend to pop on lashes anyway, but on the days when that just isn't going to happen, this mascara still offers up great looking lashes. I love that it is truly black, and gives a decent amount of volume to my lashes thanks to the fibre and tubing formula. It lengthens pretty well, but isn't over-the-top blow me away kind of length. The formula is great for building if you want the biggest lashes possible (me!) and doesn't get clumpy or flaky.

Every season is highlighter season in my book, but summer is especially perfect for all things glowy. The Almay Make Them Jelly Hi-Lite is alll about the glow with a unique, bouncy jelly formula. The squishy product is packed with a glowing sheen and shimmer. I love the glowy aspect, but the shimmer... it's just too much like glitter for me to get use out of this on my face as a typical highlighter. That said, after experimenting a little bit, this also works on lips pre-gloss or on eyes for some added sparkle as it does dry down to something that won't just wear away. Plus, these create something super incredible when mixed into a bit of body moisturizer or oil, for a goddess worthy glow on arms, legs, wherever.

I have been loving glosses lately, so I was very pleased to get my hands on the Almay Goddess Gloss. The formula is amazing for anyone who can't deal with anything sticky as these feel more like a lip butter or balm with the smoothest, hydrating, and not even slightly sticky feel. They feature pomegranate, grape, and raspberry oils for added benefit. The range offers quite a few shade options, with sheer, high shine finishes, but it's Dreamy (pink with tonal and purple-pink shimmer) and Flame (rusty-red with pink shimmer) that I've been loving. Oh, and how could I forget, these feature holo caps that are all kinds of fun.

Overall, some excellent options from Almay! I have to admit, I hadn't really been paying attention to their releases, and was obviously missing out. Is your makeup bag ready for summer? Do you have any Almay faves?
