Maybelline Colour Sensational High Shine Gloss

Maybelline High Shine Gloss- Almond Crush and Electric Shock (7)

I broke my own rule, and it was totally worth it! That rule was no more lip gloss. A few weeks ago I did a lip gloss and lipstick clear out because I was overrun with them. It was tough, as it hadn't been that long since the last clear out, but it had to be done. My friends quite liked it though. Anyway, I decided it was necessary to cut out all lip related spending for a while and enjoy what I have. I was doing pretty well until I read a review of the Maybelline Colour Sensation High Shine Glosses. I just couldn't resist. Read on for a look at Almond Crush and Electric Shock.

'Pure color from liquid pigments, creamier feel from nourishing honey nectar, and a cleaner shine, only from this 100% wax-free formula. Super-saturated color meets ultra-clean shine...Sensational.' - Maybelline

If you're reading this thinking 'Why am I reading this? I don't even like lip gloss...' then this is the gloss for you. The formula is so comfortable on lips and lacks any stickiness but is still incredibly shiny and wears decently for a gloss- about 2 hours. The review that sparked my need for these mentioned that they were similar to the Clarins Lip Protectors, which I've been hankering to try too (but haven't because I'm always overrun with gloss.) I can't verify that for myself, but based on what I know of them and from trying this I'm forced to agree. Although, with Maybelline you get more pigmentation, more shades to choose from, and they're half the price.

Housed in long, slim tubes with sleek silver caps, these look much more like designer glosses than drugstore. They have standard doe foot applicators, but with a slight twist as the shape is elongated and has a bend in it which makes fast application easier as it holds more product. These have an okay scent- a perfumey-fruit blend- but does read as a little artificial. I don't hate it, but I don't love it either... luckily, it doesn't stick around very long once applied.

Almond Crush is a translucent nude shimmer. I usually don't go for shades like this- it does read fairly frosty in the tube- but the shimmer in it looked too good to pass up. This gives lips a slight nude-pink colour, but is mostly iridescent shimmer and shine. I love this on it's own as the shimmer reflects light and is just plain pretty, but it's also nice over lipstick for added shine and dimension.

Maybelline High Shine Gloss- Electric Shock

Electric Shock is a vivid, blue based pink cream. While Almond Crush was sheer, this has great pigmentation. From what I saw, most of the line is made up of more pigmented shades like this. Love this colour! It's bright without being too bright and has great shine.

Overall, I am kind of in love with these glosses! The fact that they're so shiny yet wear so comfortably makes them winners in my book. Tried them? Thoughts?
